“Fate, up against your will… your sky all hung with jewels”
EVERY SINGLE LINE hits. I M so glad to be in my neo-existentialist era to enjoy it.

What if, hear me out, I was a writer with some interesting stories and looking for literary magazines to pitch me to submit lol #amquerying #amwriting

Before “The White Lotus” season 3 finale, I’m just going to put this out there. My prediction for who dies… they all do. Except Carrie Coon. And the brother-sister at the ashram. And maybe “Greg” who is a cockroach. What do you think?

At a Chinese diner proofing a short story for submission. Got this little gem of a fortune. #amwriting

Just working late today and planning a 10- day hiking and camping trip. What are your best and favorites?

Sitting down to watch #BlackBag have you seen it? Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbinder. I have no idea how to bind a “Fass” I’m hoping this movie answers that question. 😂

Also researching camping for an upcoming trip. This one might happen in southeast Oregon to Crater Lake.

So, here’s my top few songs of #stereolab that aren’t Jenny Ondioline or French Disko, great cuts, there are so many.

Fluorescences
Op Hop Detonation (who loves a brass-electric guitar duo) absolutely stunning after over two decades.
“Get a Shot of the Refrigerator” -fun, bouncy, danceable.

My career (might seem to some) lacks cohesion, lacks that easily definable quality. I am a writer. A novelist that never publishes and keeps rewriting my work.

Maybe I was just born that way. I was just (apparently) not designed for the whatever you all call stability.

The other day, as I reflected on my upcoming birthday, I considered whether I wanted to start dating again. In some ways I’m ready, in other more practical ways, I’m still under construction. I live remote to almost everyone, I am a grandfather, a writer with several unpublished manuscripts

And I love, absolutely love Smash Cake and its publishers who embraced my words so early on. Those early adopters, people who “sided with me” when I lacked “proof” are people that I remember well.

That “eyelashes” story really wrote itself. As though I rolled out dough and made a rough loaf of it, but some people like white bread, pre-sliced, cause it’s all they’ve had. And others prefer more rustic loaves.

I submitted that story to 17 journals. All rejected it.

“American Fiction” came up in class last summer. And it’s been some time. Are we talking about Percival Everett yet?

When I need reminding about the intimate processes from which literature is produced, I re-read parts of this interview with James Salter. No one could craft a better sentence than him.

James Salter, The Art of Fiction No. 133
“The real event of the 1980s was . . . the emergence of great looting fortunes . . . which made us revise the value of everything—not to the benefit of society . . . ”

“One time in third grade, I pulled all my eyelashes out.” Is the first line of a story I wrote in 2008 and I still love it. It has the benefit of being completely true and also a little bizarre, unless you are one of those kids that did this, which many have told me.
