Games I played this year (Dec ‘24 to when I eventually forget), a thread 🧵 🪡

P.S. this isn’t exclusively new games, just games I played through.
BORDERLANDS 4

lmao I forgot I played this.

Like, we all knew this was gonna be mid as heck right? I can’t really recommend this to anyone, if you like Borderlands maybe pick it up on sale.

2/5, it could’ve been so much better.

DESPELOTE

I saw this rated highly on Metacritic and went in with 0 expectations. This game tells a great story about sports and people, and does so in such a fun and interactive way.

While it was a very short game, I think it told the story well with the time it had.

4/5, GOOOOAAALLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pokémon Legends: Z-A

This takes a lot of great stuff from Legends: Arceus and takes a more battle centric spin on it, which I enjoyed!

It had a lot of the Pokémon problems (no VA, everything looks kinda weird), but I really liked the core mechanics of everything.

3/5, play Arceus first tho.

HADES 2

I started playing this in early access, but have put a ton of time into it since its release in September. What a treat this game is, great for long sessions or just jamming a quick couple runs.

Top 3 for my fav games this year, easily a 5/5.

My goal for 2025 was to play more video games, and wow did I do that. I finished more games this year than I have in maybe the past 5.

I was good about reviewing everything I played, but kinda got behind on it. Definitely gonna try and do what I missed this weekend.

Hit credits on Pokémon Legends ZA last night, and I think it lands somewhere in the top 3 for my favorite Pokémon games of all time.

Not gonna spoil anything obviously, but I can’t wait to explore some post game shenanigans.

We are 5 minutes into Pokémon Z-A, and damn like why can’t Pokémon ever invest in voice acting? Like, seriously!!! These silent cutscenes are really awkward and weird.

I’ve been thinking a lot about OKAMI recently, cause man, what a fantastic game. I’m really hoping we hear some news about the sequel soon.

Currently jamming Borderlands 4 before I jump back into Silksong. I’ve been enjoying it so far!

I’m hoping to clear both games before Pokémon Legends: ZA comes out, but free time is a commodity these days.

I guess I should say something about the game I’ve been playing before jumping into another.

TINY BOOK SHOP

This is a very cute and heartwarming game that I would rec to any cozy gamer/book enthusiast. My main advice would be to take this game slow, don’t rush anything.

4/5, good game.

Lmao, steam isn’t working so I can’t buy Silksong, I’m just gonna play Hollow Knight again.

I’ve been enjoying Mario Kart World, but I hope they add a way for you to unlock characters that isn’t just hoping to get Kamek’d on specific maps.

What a terrible way to gatekeep specific drivers, and while people have found a way to grind for them it’s just tedious and BORING.

On a scale from Daffy Duck to Bugs Bunny, I’m about a Gossamer today.

DONKEY KONG: BANANZA

Okay, actual review time. Is this GOTY? Probably not, but it definitely is one of the best games this year, and will be a Switch staple like Mario Odyssey was.

Super fun movement and combat, and so much stuff to see and collect. If you can, you should play this game.

5/5

After finally getting all the bananas and fossils in DK: Bananza, I officially don’t know what to do with my video game time.

My steam backlog is as daunting as ever, but I welcome suggestions to add to it.

Alright, just hit credits on Donkey Kong: Bananza. Such a fun game, I loved Mario Odyssey and I knew I was gonna love DK from the very first trailer.

If a game tells me to collect 700+ bananas, say less. I love me a collect-a-thon.

It’s been awhile, but I’ve finished the main story of Clair Obscur.

This is the game of the year for me, at least so far. Still a lot of time left but it will be hard to top.

If you’re still waiting to play, do it. This is a game I will recommend to people for years to come.

5/5, fantastic.

DELIVER AT ALL COSTS

Okay, I enjoyed the missions and gameplay, but the story really lost me around the end of the 2nd act.

I’m not gonna spoil it obvi, but it really kinda tainted my enjoyment of the rest of the game. Still, the missions were fun and pretty creative so 👍👍 there!

Probably a 3/5

So I stopped after the first 40 minutes of Clair Obsur because I don’t think my computer would be able to do it justice, graphics and frames wise.

Sorry $500 Best Buy desktop from 2020, it’s time to upgrade.

You got 2-3 hours and want to play as a bread obsessed duck who has no concept of personal privacy?

Well then first play Duck Detective: The Secret Salami, and then play The Ghost of Glamping.

Both games are an easy 5/5

(Also Brian David Gilbert voices an alligator and that’s pretty neat!)

A friend of mine who worked at TCGPlayer for the past 4 years posted a little bit ago about being laid off. While we don't really talk a lot, he is easily one of the best people I know. Think of him and the others who are being directly affected by this and tell TCGPlayer this is not okay.
Fellow creators who work with/have worked with @tcgplayer.com, the least you could be doing is sending an email to your rep expressing concern over your continued relationship in light of anti union, anti worker policy & intimidation.
Since TCGplayer and eBay announced the closure of our authentication center, they’ve turned the warehouse into a dystopian hellscape. 🚨

The more I look at Premodern lists the more interested I get. Mostly because of Recurring Nightmare.

I really like Recurring Nightmare…
