If I were a powerful partisan figure, I would simply demonstrate cultural normality rather than going to the DealBook Summit to discuss how we need to become normal (which, to be clear, we are not).
California Governor Gavin Newsom said on Thursday that the Democratic Party needed to be “more culturally normal” and “less judgmental.”

Vaccines are the greatest public health success story in history.

So much death and suffering can be stopped entirely, or dramatically reduced.

And people are just throwing it away.

However. One of the patients talking with "Viv" (the AI companion)...had not had a visitor in three months.

She talked for two hours. She was so, so happy to have someone to talk to.

It broke my heart a little. I think it broke the researcher's heart a little, too.

Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

Looking at all y’all. Click into stories. Read them. Then share them, preferably saying why.

Then maybe those of us determined to put them out there for you can survive to keep writing them.
As an editor I always hear a lot of: "Why don't you cover climate/environment/prison reform" and 99% of the time the answer is simply "because you don't click those stories!" Readers don't realize they are the ones who dictate all future coverage, and they do it every day with their clicks

Around Chicago ICE/Border Patrol are mostly just driving around looking for landscaping crews. It’s not targeted by threat or criminal background. It’s just Kavanaugh sweeps of brown men in work clothes operating landscaping equipment to hit quotas. They’re not investigating, they’re hunting
Still haven’t seen a video of neighbors cheering an abduction, still haven’t seen reports of a neighbor pointing out a hiding migrant to ICE/Border Patrol

The only people praising the ICE/Border Patrol terror patrols & kidnappings are people who live nowhere near where they’re happening.

Vaccination and public health are at bottom gifts we give each other and ourselves. They are inherently social.

The alternative is pathological individualism, a fundamental rejection of others—one that sees humanity as an ideal gas of unconnected atoms.

Scared & lonely is no way to go thru life.

Measles is extremely infectious. It can linger in the room for up to 2 h after an infectious person has left.

Among unvaccinated people, 90% will become infected if exposed.

The depth of the shame of a country this wealthy and abundant allowing its people to go hungry is impossible to measure. The fact that a handful of people could fix this by paying their fair share of taxes while still remaining obscenely wealthy makes it even worse.
