🌊 Heading next week to London for Seascape Symposium II hosted by @zslofficial.bsky.social
Denmark’s sea faces big pressures: trawling, extraction, eutrophication. Cod stocks collapsed, eelgrass greatly reduced.
I’ll talk about seascape restoration in Denmark.

😡The Norwegian parliament voted by 80-20 in favour for commercial #DeepSeaMining while scientists warn mining could devastate marine life. While EU and UK have called for a temporary ban on deep-sea mining because of environmental concerns bitly.ws/39z9X

Time to break with traditions - at least when it comes to #eel. Eels are critically endangered and should not be caught, sold or eaten - not even for #Christmas lunch. Farmed eel is also not an alternative because farmed eel also comes from wild stock. #CFP

Bottom trawling is responsible for so much biodiversity loss and destruction, it’s mind boggling how it’s still allowed even in e.g. most EU MPAs…
Conservation in fisheries must get better!

Here we go again: a proud Danish minister who has negotiated fishing quotas above sustainable levels: "I am very satisfied with the overall result of the fishing kvota agreements [...] an important priority has been to ensure a sufficient bycatch quota for cod." #agrifish #CFP #

Today EC will agree on #Baltic fishing quotas.Far too long ministers had focus on "balance in relation to business" instead of securing robust fish stocks, that will secure fisheries in a long term.Fisheries measures such as compulsory electronic monitoring should be introduced to restore Baltic Sea
