Very enjoyable day so far at the Complete Careers celebration conference. Looking back to see how far we've come in the last few years as well as thinking about the challenges and positives for the future. Nice to catch up with some colleagues from Connexions days too. #careers

Sad to see that the curriculum review headed by Becky Francis decided that careers education, information and guidance were outside the terms of reference for the review.

Careers education needs to be part of the curriculum. Massive missed opportunity here - the learning of curriculum subjects starts to make sense for students when the content is linked to the skills and knowledge used in jobs and careers and real-world experiences.

Not enough attention is being paid to the effective closure of the bulk of one of the 2 or 3 most important public archives for modern British history. A terrible own goal for the BBC as a public-service agency.

Interesting report on how middle-skill occupations are changing. Useful for considering the skills and qualities that are highly valued in administrative roles; also important to note the almost doubling of the proportion of graduates in these occupations from 2011-2024. #careers #LMI #FutureOfWork

Lots of change ahead for the careers sector. I really hope the value of high quality career guidance is recognised and incorporated appropriately.
The DWP will bring the National Careers Service delivery in-house on 1 October 2026.

This is a major change as the Jobs and Careers Service forms, and my article in Careers News covers the detail so far with a comment from Katharine Horler, Careers England.

Completely back this but the devil will be in the detail. With another librarian parent I set up a library completely from scratch at my children's primary school. They bought an LMS and we trained student helpers but they struggled with maintenance and loans/returns once they were on their own.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves pledges a library in every primary school in England by 2029, backed by £10m+. Details on spending, the definition of a library, and librarians’ role are still unclear. #InformationProfessional www.cilip.org.uk/news/711440/...

Agreed - one of my favourite questions for clients (of all ages!) is 'What would success look like for you?'. I ask it of myself too, as careers professionals are not immune from the lure of groupthink!

This is such an important idea to discuss, especially for young people who can often get direction from school and their parents towards what *they* deem to be 'good careers' rather than what the young person might want for their own future. #Careers #CareersAdvice #RCDP
