When cops and agents of the state hide their identity and are thugs, it's also easy for thugs to pretend to be police. The entire system of trust and the social contract is (and has been) broken. We see just one result of that in Minnesota today.

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable.
Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes.

I was of the opinion that most of Russia's involvement in all this was opportunistic, but with how hard Trump & Co. have gone and continue to go after USAID, I'm beginning to change my mind and think it may actually be a Russian plot.
