If anyone still thinks the Asad regime worked in favour of Islām, just look at the people who supported it. Everyone who was anti-Islām supported it from militant-atheist communists to right-wing extremists. Only the West didn’t and it was because of its anti-Russian and anti-Iranian policy.

The fundamental problem with cost-benefit analysis that justifies Muslim participation in democratic systems (including the liberal international order) is that it doesn’t take into account the cost participating in these systems has on religion and tawḥīd.

Yes, some classical fuqahā’ like Taqī ad-Dīn as-Subkī and Ibn Ḥajr al-Haytamī permitted istighāthah. But they didn’t permit the shirkī istighāthah practised by many Barelwīs and extreme Ṣūfīs.
