I'm a library systems specialist at Western Connecticut State University. I research 1800s family drama for fun. I also cross-stitch.

I'm also on mastodon as @smh@library.love -- that is my primary IRL-persona social media account.

Shout-out to the Vintage Radio and Communications Museum of Connecticut!

I was looking through photos and found some from my visit in 2019. I had a good time then and look forward to visiting again.

I do not personally or professionally know this person, but their advice on how to help your trans and nonbinary friends right now is excellent

(On a related note, I haven't been loud about the financial pieces discussed here that impact me personally, but happy to talk more by DM if folks want)

Downside of working on a college campus: sometimes you walk into the elevator and are hit with a wall of Axe Body spray left by a previous inhabitant. #college #omgsmelly

It's been 3 months since my mom told me she wasn't going to "bother me" again. So, I blocked her. I still feel ok about this.

There's only so many times you can push your kid away and expect them to come running back.

It's ok to not talk to your parents. It's ok to feel weird about it. #estranged

This is Alan. He has recently encountered his first house. Does not know where to stand, what to do, or where the sky went. But other than that thinks it's going pretty well. 12/10

So, friends online & in person have been hitting burnout/overwhelm, & I get there too. I strongly strongly recommend trying out an aggregator/summarizer or two until you find one that helps you feel informed but not overwhelmed. Doom scrolling is literally self harm, so here's some that help me:

The college I work at is officially Very Hispanic (a "Hispanic Serving Institution") and so all this ICE stuff has me professionally stressed.

I was on my zoom stitch&bitch with my aunts and one of them mentioned getting a text from John. I perked up, then realized she wasn't talking about my dad and I felt a wave on anger.

Of *course* she wasn't talking about my dad. His 4-year deathiversary is next week. #grief #deaddadclub

I'm grateful for my extra padding, which came in handy today when someone turned off the friction and I landed flat on my back in an icy parking lot. I'm just sore and bruised on my arm and bum.

Also, if you're reading this, especially if you are queer, know that I care about you. Know that you're not alone. Know that we're going to support each other and hundreds of people are working, including me, to get us all through this

I've lost 7% of my body weight since March 2024. Dr saw I have insulin resistance, I got diagnosed with #PCOS, and I'm now on meds, taken twice a day with food. No other change.

Turns out poor diet and lack of exercise weren't the root cause of my prior weight gain. I'm a tad salty. #weightloss

Today I listened to all the VMs I have from my dad. I have 3, from 2010, 2011, 2018. Less than 200kb. It's lovely to hear him concerned about me, returning a missed call, letting me know his heart surgery went well.

It's been 4 years this month since I lost him to COVID-19. #death #grief #covid19

A fiction #podcast I'm really enjoying is "World Gone Wrong". www.audaciousmachinecreative.com/world-gone-w... . It's conversations between two roommates about all the new weird stuff happening in the world, like werewolves and poltergeists. It's sweet, queer-friendly, and gentle.

I'm fed up with Facebook. I was hanging around for a few groups I'll miss, but wow the comments have gotten mean and unhinged.

Cw: child abuse
I don't need people justifying beating children with bats as "discipline" in my life.
