Research Communications Manager at Leeds University Business School, University of Leeds.
Big fan of reading (literary fiction, historical fiction, memoirs, anything to do with circuses or lighthouses...), and going to gigs and the theatre.
- “Cat Lady” by Dawn O’Porter. I really enjoy her books. They’re always very funny and a little bit twisted.
- “Everyone in my family has killed someone” by Benjamin Stevenson. Hmm - this was ok, but I didn’t love it.
- “The Radleys” by Matt Haig. Anyone watched the TV show? Is it any good?

Some more scribbles of books I’ve read recently:

“Morgan is my Name” by @sophiekeetchauthor.bsky.social - a great, feminist Arthurian tale. I re-read this book recently, ready to start the second in the series “Le Fay” soon.

Cutting carbon and reaching net zero will mean massive changes in lots of areas of life - including jobs and work. But how do we make sure that switch is fair on workers?

Making the net zero transition fair for workers
Ministers must work with unions to make sure the journey to net zero is fair on workers, and guarantee good jobs for people moving from carbon intensive industries to a new green economy, according to...

Five years since COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic.

At the Business School, our researchers were not only navigating this new reality but also conducting vital research to help businesses, policymakers, and society respond to the crisis.

Happy #WorldBookDay! I was pleased to be asked for some author and book recommendations for our staff intranet. It was HARD whittling it down to just a few, but I recommended Fredrik Backman and Jojo Moyes as (two of) my favourite authors

Great article by Aida Hajro and Milda Žilinskaitė explaining how the UK's migration debate overlooks a key truth: labour demand drives immigration.

As part of my “draw what you’ve read” challenge, here’s the second book I read this year - The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O’Farrell. I didn’t fancy drawing the actual front cover, so went for a portrait that inspired the main character instead.

My challenge for 2025 is to draw a pic for every book I read. Here was my first read (and drawing) of 2025. “Sisters of Fire and Fury” by Laura Bates. Feminist retelling of Arthurian Legend. What’s not to love?

Back in the day, I used to have 2 Twitter accounts - a personal 1 (for food, books, gigs, and ranting about Northern Rail) and a professional 1 (all things LUBS research related and general research comms). Where are we at with Bluesky? Who’s showing their personal side & who’s remaining corporate?

I've just finished writing our quarterly research comms report - a job I always enjoy doing as it allows me to take stock and look at what we've achieved over the last few months. Our researchers have produced some really engaging content, helping disseminate their findings to the wider public.
