Great to see some of the giants of the UK solidarity movement's long fight for freedom of Western Sahara at the Houses of Parliament reception to mark the 50th anniversary of the conflict. Thanks to Ben Lake MP (PC, Preseli) for hosting, and to EU Polisario Rep Omar Mansour for a powerful speech 🧵

Only the people of Western Sahara should decide their future. It is their inalienable right to self-determination that is inscribed in the UN Charter and international law. This sets an extremely dangerous precedent.

Every time I see another escalation of mortal threat in the name of preserving 'liberal democracies', all I can think is that we need to get busy building the community organising we'll need to dismantle killing people for moving to seek a livelihood before climate change displacement hits hard.

This is the way.

Labour botched it. I hope the Greens are taking notes.

One of the many reasons extending settlement qualification period to 10 years is a terrible idea. Precarious status makes it harder to get training, better jobs, etc. The policy is economic as well as social self harm. on.ft.com/49vTQC8

Today I did something I should have done months ago. I went to an 'asylum seeker hotel protest' to speak to all involved. Protestors, live stream vlogger, police, counter-protestors. My main take away is that anyone wishing to understand this movement should do the same. Chat. Listen. Reflections🧵

Kavin came to the UK legally on a skilled worker visa with hopes and dreams. His manager—who sponsored his visa—took his phone, passport, and documents. Forced him to work endless hours. Paid him £100 for a month’s work. Beat him. Threatened deportation if he complained. 🧵

What is “genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty” ? That is continued illegal occupation, continued repression and exploitation of natural resources, continued unlawful detention of activists. That is what Western powers are supporting ! More instability and more uncertainty. Free Western Sahara

I've written for the Metro on how Starmer's latest attempt to look 'tough' on asylum seeker hotels has exposed him as a coward.

A government spending more just in order to inflict greater misery on refugees is beyond contempt - & that contempt is showing up in the polls. metro.co.uk/2025/10/29/k...
