Read what Emma said. I’m not even going to try and summarize my thoughts because she does it so well.
An excerpt from my remarks to the annual gathering of Cornell trustees & alumni from Oct. 23 as part of a plenary panel “Research at risk”. I stand by what I said. Cornell continues to fail its researchers. In light of this week’s news, I’m afraid the timing of this event was too convenient. (1/🧵)

Interestingly the original 'tree huggers' weren't about intimacy with nature as such

They were rural women defending the forests that supported their livelihoods from loggers, after gov sold their forests to cricket bat manufacturers and lured the men away to a meeting
How a tree-hugging protest transformed Indian environmentalism
Fifty years ago, a group of women from the villages of the Western Himalayas sparked Chipko, a green movement that remains relevant in the age of climate change.

Elderly and disabled people told Congress that cutting Medicaid could kill people and in response, they were arrested in their wheelchairs.

What the hell are we doing?
People in wheelchairs are getting arrested right now in the Russell Senate Office Building in DC. They showed up to tell Congress not to cut their Medicaid, because they cant afford health care without it. If you look closely you can see the zip ties on their hands. #WeWontGetOverLosingMedicaid

Why is the US aggressively defunding agricultural research that could address some of these challenges???
Around the world, food staples — including wheat, beef and coffee — are being affected by widespread drought, with some prices climbing to record highs.

Published in @currentbiology.bsky.social‬, a new study reveals an astonishing 83% of ectomycorrhizal #fungi are classified as dark taxa, existing only through their DNA sequences and eluding formal classification. 🧵
