i'm really annoyed the internet has reached a point where people by default think every game is bad, especially with older ones. i get this from random chatters no matter how much i am enjoying myself, streamers have their whole personality revolve around trashing every tiny thing, it's exhausting

i dont wanna talk about it
I'm going to attempt to redeem myself after failing on the very last day of November when I tried this last year.

Like I did last year, I will be adding the stipulation that I fail the challenge if I see any doug walker content in any video that I actively sought out, even if its not about him

In Super Mario 3D Land, the welcome screen that is displayed when starting the game for the first time appears to be much less enthusiastic about the game in the European version compared to the US version.

Sonic & the Secret Rings for me. Abysmal controls and insanely repetitive structure.
What's the worst game you finished/rolled credits on?

(games media folks, it can't be something you were assigned to review; this has to be something you subjected yourself to of your own free will)

Artwork used internally at DIC Entertainment during the production of the Super Mario World cartoon, replacing Marge Simpson with Mario. According to a former DIC employee, this was made due to an inside joke at the studio, though the exact nature of the joke has been lost.

I just watched a review of that new Mario Galaxy bundle on Switch and they said the controls in Galaxy are "a refined and super polished version of sm64 controls" What planet is he living on? 🤨 SM64 had actual flow and momentum and it didn't have fucking end lag on the long jump.

More importantly he hated the Game Boy Micro. Not sure if he deserves forgiveness for that one. 😳
If social media was what it is now back in the 2000s-early 2010s I don't think Reggie would have quite the same love

The guy withheld multiple fully localised English Wii games that leaned mature. Can think of around 5 high profile ones off hand

I am bothered when gamers call experiences that don't reward them extrinsically 'pointless'. There's a tendency to omitt activities a game presents as 'nothing', despite those activities clearly being 'something'. You only run to the right in Super Mario Bros if you ignore everything inbetween.

I don't think anyone THINKS OF THEMSELVES this way, but it's useful to examine whether art that you think is bad makes you feel
- sad that it dropped the ball, didn't rise to the occasion, etc
or
- angry that someone DID this art to YOU

Option 1 is normal and healthy. Option 2 is a plague.

Culture's current fixation on labeling, categorizing, and dividing EVERYTHING (genres, generations, eras, the list goes on) speaks to the influence of marketing and the importance of search engine optimization. They've got us thinking of ourselves as being in the bubbles they defined for us.
i think the whole wholesome/cozy games vs. violent game divide is so endlessly irritating to me because it's so indicative of art viewed through the lens of marketing labels and surface aesthetics rather than anything contained within. i don't know why we accept those terms when talking about art
