Fun fact: one of my good friends was instrumental in making this change happen and it makes me very proud!
Loved seeing Te Komititanga full of people celebrating the lighting of Te Manaaki, Auckland’s Giant Christmas Tree.

Hard to believe a few years ago this civic space was a four lane road. It’s much better now and it is used by tens of thousands more people each day.

The problem with that Whamageddon thing is that Last Christmas is a stone cold banger and trying to avoid it proves that you don't truly understand the meaning of the season, to celebrate our Lord and Savior, Saint George Michael.

Agree, Orinoco Flow is perfect in any setting
Forget your heavy baselines and your gritty guitar riffs - Orinoco Flow by Enya is one of the best songs to drive to.

What if cheering your team on to win the league is a thing you do with family and friends?
Ask a terminal cancer patient what matters most. In most cases it won't be a new car or a big follower count or their team winning the league. It will be time spent with friends, family, and nature

Tonight the family of Virginia Giuffre say she ‘brought down a British prince with her truth and extraordinary courage’

Virginia claimed Andrew sexually abused her on three separate occasions. He denies those allegations.

This has got our household on a deep dive of great BBC sporting themes: MOTD, ski Sunday, and the Wimbledon theme are all grade-A dynamite
I reckon everyone in the UK would be much happier if we adopted the theme from Grandstand as our national anthem.

I wrote a thing about trying not to get led into totally delusional thinking by LLMs. (Another way of course is not to use them. But as a lot of people *are* using them we also need to talk about strategies for harm reduction.)

Are you using an LLM for anything important? (Like, life advice?)
One weird prompt to start using immediately

Reminder that medical science is EXTRAORDINARY
TIL that for some people with irreparably damaged corneas, you can pull one of their teeth, drill a hole in it, install an artificial lens, sew it into their cheek (so tissue attaches), then pull it out and stick it in their damaged eye, and ... it works fine!?! www.nbcboston.com/news/health/...
Man, 34, is no longer blind after tooth is implanted in eye in 'crazy' surgery
Tooth-in-eye surgery sounds like science fiction, but it can help people with severely damaged corneas see again. A patient and his doctors describe what it's like.

Every time I hear talk of the next general election I remember there's three sets of local elections, a slate of devolved elections, men's and women's football World Cups, a summer and winter Olympics, a US Presidential election and thirteen Sinner v Alcaraz grand slam finals before then

The only way to kill off the Sad Boner Professor cliché forever is to re-associate it with genres the litfic elite consider to be icky and beneath notice.

So we need space opera and high fantasy to grow their own sad professor boners then flaunt them in Ian McEwan's back yard.

We’ve seen off our friends (including the one who was celebrating his 40th, and is the reason for us heading to Leeds Fest in the first place) and it’s time for me to attempt to wash the dust out of my hair.

Never seen dust like it, huge spirals pouring up out of every pit. Worse than Coachella!
Yesterday I, a woman of fully 40 years on this earth, went to the last day of Leeds Festival and screamed and head banged along to Limp Bizkit’s set.

Am I in a world of physical pain today? Yes
Can I speak? No
Was it worth it? Absolutely 🤘🏻

So the British establishment (including the govt with its ‘island of strangers’, ‘tough on immigrants’ stance) is weaponising the worst thugs in our society. Empowering known domestic abusers by echoing their language and promoting their nonsense ‘protests’
This is possible. But it is a very weak basis for a frontpage splash, learning absolutely nothing from credulous media reporting two weekends ago of a wave of protests that barely happened

Just had such an invigorating meeting with a woman who is a little older and a lot wiser than me. Full of energy and ideas and possibilities - another day where I’m glad I said ‘yes’ when an interesting person asked me to go for a coffee and a chat ❤️❤️❤️

Been having fun recently as a regular guest on my fave rugby league podcast, which has led to me doing a couple of local radio guest spots too.

Last night, when I shared this news with my neighbours, my least favourite neighbour told me that her husband doesn’t like sport commentary from women 🙃🙃🙃
