I was writing my Margaery Tyrell isekai into Harry Potter wrold #fanfiction and I needed names for classmates. I'm using the Fantasy Name Generator and it's generating ridiculous names: Rose Beaverdam, Karl Pincushion, Dew Bulb, Silver Sweaters, Cricket Buttercup.

Guest review on Chapter 2 of Between Bronze and Gold (unreviewed): I feel profoundly betrayed by this story arc. We invested in these characters because they stood for something better, and now they are architects of a system that is functionally fascism. I'm begging you to remember the fundamental values of the source material - values of freedom, justice, and compassion. To abandon those principles for a grimdark aesthetic that minimizes state violence is unforgivable. I will drop this fic if the next chapter doesn't introduce severe narrative-breaking consequences for this oppressive structure.

I haven't posted any #fanfiction all year. Then I finally post the first chapter of Between Bronze and Gold on #AO3. The reception by readers has been phenomenal and I'm super grateful considering the niche nature of the fic. Thank you!

The latest AI bot intrusion in #fanfiction and on #AO3 is posting comments in fics accusing other writers of using generative AI in their stories. Don't fall for their bullshit! It's just a way to try to conquer and divide us.
A comment on an AO3 work by a bot calling itself Quantumr Quirks: I feel so betrayed by [redacted]. I was eagerly awaiting their next update, and now I find out it was mostly spat out by an AI with minimal editing, and they're happy about that fact. It’s a total bait-and-switch. I'm done reading. Everyone else needs to know about this as well. We have to spread the word quickly to stop other readers from wasting their time and kudoing machine-generated chapters. The only way to get this stopped is through official channels, so please, everyone, stop reading his work and go immediately report him to the admins for fraudulent authorship.

People who enjoy #fanfiction, monetization of fanfiction is a pretty contentious topic right now. It's problematic for many reasons, but probably the best reason is that everyone would lose when free expression in fanfiction no longer exists.
I'm sorry, I'm not going to transcribe this whole conversation. The gist of it is that the user I'm speaking to wants IP creators to have to pay fanfiction writers because fanfiction writers offer free marketing with their work that hypes the original creator's content. I explain to them that since we're writing fanfiction of their IP without consent, that the IP owners are going to be the ones to be paid, not us. I have to further explain that one of the greatest parts about fanfiction is how free it is: free to access, free to create, and, best of all, free expression. If it came to be that IP owners had to pay fanfiction writers, then they'd pick winners and losers and that would cause the censorship of fanfiction. AO3 is, of course, purpose built to avoid censorship.
