Breaking news from @ctvnewsvancouver.bsky.social that 30 non-union employees at CoV were fired today is an alarming signal of what ABC’s “Zero Means Zero’’ budget truly means for our city.

It is actively defunding core city services. Vancouver deserves transparency.

On the discussion of VPD and VFD budgets yesterday, @ptfry.bsky.social was asking the right questions about Task Force Barrage: why did approval for $5 mil in spending seem like an afterthought?

That decision should have come to City Council before ABC unilaterally approved TFB.

The VPD has requested an additional $50 mil for 2026, putting their total budget to just over $497 mil. Meanwhile, the grand "Zero Means Zero" plan (for everyone else) from ABC & Mayor Sim is really going to hurt our community & park services.

The 0% budget increase looks like a last-ditch effort to salvage a mismanaged term. This article points out how ABC has fallen short of their promise to boost tree cover, and now that's at risk as staff is ordered to look for cuts.
