We need to understand that the capitalist class is differentiated.
Some will be well-served by strong-arm cronyism. Others were well served by a rules-based order.

One way of thinking about what's going on now is that the bosses have collectively realized that the social contract they previously agreed to was much more generous to the rest of us than it needed to be. (What are we going to do? riot? strike?) So they are renegotiating it.
