Over 80% of the world’s people want their governments to “do more” to address climate change, and nearly two-thirds are on board with that action costing them a bit. Yet, this majority believes its a minority due to media's climate silence. -- @thenation.com

The Media Is Complicit in the Climate Confusion
The vast majority of people want their governments to take climate action—but most wrongly think they’re in the minority. The media is partly to blame.

Last time we checked, a climate leader doesn't:

- Violate NY's climate law
- Indefinitely delay a pollution cap program
- Drag her feet on public renewables
- Fast-track fossil fuel pipelines
- Green-light energy bill rate hikes

Energy bills are going up, but it’s not because of climate policies. NYers are paying millions for infrastructure projects, global markets, taxes, & more. It is time for clean, local energy that protects people and the planet.

My goal here is not to downplay household energy costs, which are important and a main focus of my research. It's to point out that much mainstream coverage focuses on electricity generation, which plays a minor role in the utility bills people actually pay. It's mainly about poles, wires, and PUCs.
With electricity costs in the news lately, it's worth remembering that wholesale energy supply costs - for example, generating electricity from wind/solar vs. coal/gas - make up just 7% of residential utility bills, and less than 1% of overall housing-related costs for typical American households.
Energy costs are a tough political issue because it's hard to explain in a digestible sound bite why they're going up. This more or less turns the conversation into a "right said, left said," which (sorry) the right will win because they've invested billions over decades into all types of megaphone.
