Prof Alexis Jay, chair of public inquiry into child sexual abuse, says further national inquiry into grooming gangs isn’t needed & would delay action.

“The time has passed for more inquiries, we’ve had enough… We’ve set out action required & people should just get on with it, nationally & locally”

Well, since we blinked and we're well into the 700s, let's raise the stakes: if we get to 1000 followers we'll put our followers into a (virtual) hat and pick one to win an SCM book OF THEIR CHOICE 📚
Hooray, we've reached 100 followers!!! 🎉
No pressure but @dshervington.bsky.social says if we get to 500, we'll offer a free SCM book

In the meantime I might just tell you about some books, I suppose...

Climate Change:

It's real.

It's us.

It's serious - and already dangerous.

But there are solutions.

The science is clear: the faster we cut emissions, the less suffering we will cause, and the better off we'll all be.

They knew.

They lied.

Recycling was never the answer.

Now there’s microplastics in our food, in the air we breathe and in our blood and choking the ocean.

And STILL, Coca Cola etc sell 1 billion single-use bottles EVERY YEAR in NZ.
‘They lied’: plastics producers deceived public about recycling, report reveals
Companies knew for decades recycling was not viable but promoted it regardless, Center for Climate Integrity study finds

Dr Bahzad Al-Akhras writes movingly of the current situation in Rafah, Gaza. We need a ceasefire now.
(And as apparently this needs saying, this is not an excuse for antisemitism)
Lord, hear our prayers for justice and peace.
