These aren’t footnotes; they’re maps. Greene, Plath, Morrison, Nabokov, Smith: their minor works have major things to say.

Just finished rereading Lonesome Dove and it still knocked the wind out of me. Epic in scale, yet piercingly human.

Where are the great sweeping novels now? The ones that stretch decades, break your heart, and remake you?
