Maybe Lansdowne 2.0 will have ploughs?

The contempt the city has shown for this expensive and genuinely impressive piece of art it bought and proudly installed is just perfectly symbolic of how it treats both the public realm and its own investments.

Artist fears Lansdowne installation may become '$2 million of scrap metal'
The final Lansdowne 2.0 report recommends decommissioning the art installation Moving Surfaces because there's no budget to restore it.

Hey look, amalgamated #autowa got their way again. Guess which small areas contribute the most taxes to this area the size of a country?
Lansdowne 2.0 passes 15-10.

As a group dedicated to financial transparency and smart investments in community infrastructure, we had concerns around the reporting process and special financial treatment given to Lansdowne 2.0, as well as the lack of tangible transit improvements.

Well that's it. Council has passed the Lansdowne 2.0 plan by a 15 to 10 vote.

At this point Ottawa feels less like a city and more like a taxpayer-funded vending machine for comfortable private interests.

Ottawa just voted 15–10 for Lansdowne 2.0, a “revitalization” that saddles taxpayers with decades of debt so OSEG can call it partnership.

The city gets the bill, OSEG gets the benefit.
A ridiculous decision that will define Ottawa’s future for generations. Shame on council.

Tremendous to hear some veteran Ottawa city councillors argue that Lansdowne 2.0 is needed because the previous overhaul that they voted for is crap.

Don't worry, you'll be able to get more memories. Public transit will be dead. The roads will be clogged. The Glebe will cry from all the noise. All those people are going to spill out onto the road, because there's no green space left around the condos.

It's just going to be so freaking good ♥️
I have many family memories of trying to drive my kids to ballet and swimming and being cut off left and right by people driving to RedBlacks games, running red lights and stop signs, and making chaotic U-Turns.

A bad deal and a bad process. The devil is in the details and when Ottawans read the fine print, he smiles back. Landsdowne thus far has under-delivered, not once breaking even. Therefore we must now payout $17 million a year for the chance at revenue neutrality??

You would think the mayor was being ironic here when he says that we can't acquiesce to demands of wealthy sports owners, right before he says we need to be careful we don't lose the other wealthy sports owners in the same stadium 🤣🤣

This graph below is the perfect encapsulation of this town.

What should be the city of #ottawa in red wants to be the city of Ottawa, and the rest in blue shouldn’t be the city of Ottawa and doesn’t want to be a city at all.
@mayormarksutcliffe.bsky.social and his suburban lackeys have saddled us with generations of debt for something much worse than we have today 🤡

OSEG must be pleased they held their expensive fundraisers for Sutcliffe, they paid off. I'm sure they'll reward him in the next election cycle as well

Lansdowne 2.0 is not what residents are telling us we need as a city. The cost is too much, the outcome too inadequate and uncertain, and the benefits accrue to too few. This morning's rally was energizing. We have an off-ramp; we should take it.

Regarding Prime Minister Carney’s federal budget: I don’t pretend to fully know it, and there are elements that concern me, but if I were the NDP I’d pledge to support it if a significant investment in urban public transit (nation-building, climate etc) was added, and if I were PM Carney I’d agree.

Every city counsellor in Ottawa, who is in favour of Lansdowne needs to stand up and publicly state that in voting to support this project they’re also in favour of wrecking women’s pro hockey in Ottawa. Cause you can’t have it both ways. Your photos, photo

“For years, facilities were designed around men’s schedules and men’s teams. Women were told to make do. And now, just as women’s hockey has earned the right to think bigger, the city is planning to think smaller.”

Lansdowne 2.0 is a bad deal for Ottawa on so many fronts.
Lansdowne 2.0 doesn’t give Ottawa what it needs. The plan is built around the limits of a public-private deal that leaves the city with hundreds of millions in new debt for a project that won’t serve residents well.

On the surface, this is great. But without adequate funding for university operating budgets - a provincial responsibility - this may actually result in more program cuts, not fewer.
Globe & Mail reports “the budget is expected to include up to $1-billion to attract high-quality talent and researchers from the United States and elsewhere”
So far hospitals and universities have been going it alone….
