The mayor cut routes in market and now his sfmta is making traffic worse with this gift to Waymo.
In complete violation of the intent of the law, based on a loophole Mayor Lurie and Waymo lobbyists have conspired to exploit.
The three ride-hailing operators will continue a pilot program and time limitations could be removed later this month.

It really is just simple geometry.

You cannot build a functional city if everyone brings a 2-ton living room on wheels with them.

Every single day ICE agents are threatening people and terrorizing communities.

We’ve seen ICE pepper spray babies, disappear US citizens, slam distraught mothers and fathers to the ground—now they’re terrorizing St. Paul.

ICE is out of control and should be abolished.
Federal agents from ICE, DEA and the FBI raided a St. Paul paper distributor Tuesday morning. Hundreds of community members responded in protest, clashing with officers. At least two people were detained by authorities, according to a witness.

Two unfortunate observations about a lot of US political media:

1) They don't value truth, and distort info in favor of politicians who call them biased, even when the charge is false.

2) They won't stop inviting people who denounce them, even lie to them. If anything, they'll have you on more.

The @nytimes.com decided last year what the story was; Trump II was the righteous punishment visited upon their interns and junior staffers and grandchildren for being so annoying about MeToo and BLM, and once they understood that and repented, they could have democracy back.
Just insane thing for a NYT editor to say publicly:

They like what Trump is doing, this really isn't hard. It's not both-sideism, it's running cover for the regime by choice in order to reach a desired outcome. Can we please stop cutting this institution slack it does not deserve?
A classic case of irresponsible both-sidesism from the NYT. The story is that Trump and MAGA propagandists are lying about Portland to incite a conflict, not that there are different views of the matter.

IMO, the most revealing part is Klein wrestling with the question of where "the line" is (between acceptable and unacceptable politics). Realizing that what he considered past the line is now the GOP mainstream doesn't make him commit harder to fighting it. He wonders if he needs to move the line.

Grateful for indy journalists who questioned the official narrative that corporate outlets mindlessly echoed last week.

Lethal fire at a non-threatening target in a non-hostile environment on purpose when other means, such as capture, were easily doable, and without even attempting a legal rationale.

Great reframing by Malcolm Harris at 52:50 here: When a capitalist says they need more profit to invest in something socially beneficial like housing, that profit is a fee they collect from the public, and a blockage that exists *because* there's a capitalist class that controls the money we need.

SF's inclusionary zoning program works like this too: 10-unit buildings must provide 1 affordable unit or equivalent fee; 1 to 9-unit buildings contribute nothing. It's a disincentive to density! I've always felt the fee should scale linearly.
This under-construction 7-bedroom, $14mm mansion did not have to pay any affordable housing fee.

If you built a five-unit apartment of the same size, it'd need to pay a $360,000 affordable housing fee.

How do five small homes negatively impact affordability more than one mansion?
