Terrific piece this. Culture has got to a weird point where pictures by Matisse have a nudity filter yet the language of porn is everywhere.

Slowly, ever so slowly, the British public is abandoning the idea that "hot weather = good", proving that the arc of history bends towards progress after all.
Are you hoping that a heatwave does or does not happen in the UK in the next few weeks?
Hope it does happen: 41%

Gender-affirming care.
If you’re watching TV and wondering if some D.C. figure has a jawline that’s newly strong and square … well, you might be right.

this is just the modern version of all those old ads where clumsiness or difficulty is utterly contrived in order to sell a gadget to fix it. Except we're wasting colossal resources to power this nonsense.
You know that pasta sauce Galaxy + Gemini ad? It demonstrates something interesting about AI: it is an excellent illustration of the risk of "problem orphaning" with AI. A short thread 1/7

Out for a cycle along Loch Earn south shore today. Counted over a dozen open fires burning. Astounding levels of stupidity - I don't think it's rained in close to a month! The countryside is tinder dry just now.

Not a rail or plane guy, but I do wonder whether Prestwick (or the Ayrport, as it should really be called) is the answer to the question about lifeline services for the islands. Closer to the west coast, decent connections by rail, likely has the capacity?
Last month, rail engineer @GarethDennis set the cat amongst the pigeons when he said that Glasgow Airport would close by the 2040s. So we called him and asked him to explain to us his reasoning - and why he thinks that would be a good thing for the city.

It's still early days at a national level but proof of concept is so so important and these numbers are really encouraging.
👍 “In countries which continue to invest in everyday cycling, more people travel by bike in towns, cities and rural locations. There’s no reason that the success seen in Amsterdam, Copenhagen — or more recently in Paris — can’t be replicated in Scotland” - @keithirving.bsky.social (Cycling Scotland)

That's 70 celsius.
IMPORTANT: NASA map shows temperatures of up to 160 degrees on Phoenix streets & sidewalks. All that unrelenting concrete and asphalt for cars. Not nearly enough trees. They start with ridiculous heat that’s only getting worse with the #ClimateCrisis, & then make it much worse with bad design.
