Starting off here with a last spring snapshot of Sitodiplosis mosellana—the orange wheat blossom midge. This #cecidomyiidae may not form #galls, but it’s a major pest of cereals 🌾. #diptera #entomology

In our ongoing experiment, we are exposing Douglas firs 🌲 to varying densities of the #invasive gall midge Contarinia pseudotsugae 🪰 within insect-proof tunnels and measuring the impact on tree growth. Measurements in progress, results coming soon! 📈🌿

1️⃣Monochamus galloprovincialis, gorgeous #Cerambycidae but vector of the Pine wood nematode😱
2️⃣Six-toothed #BarkBeetle, Ips sexdentatus. Smaller but very harmful🌲
3️⃣Ergates faber: Beware of its mandibles!🪚
