Your dog knows a skill but doesn’t do it, or starts and then stalls. Is your dog stubborn? Or in the cognitive acquisition phase of learning in Paul Fitt’s model? Or the associative stage? Only at the autonomous stage can we expect fluent performance in the context of significant distractions.
