Scientists themselves determine what is valued within science. Yet we act as if beholden to external managers, bean-counters who confuse the production of papers with scientific progress.

We don't have to find better ways to navigate the prison of metrics-driven scientific assessment.

When people holding a majority view don’t speak up, nobody knows they form a minority—a phenomenon called pluralistic ignorance.

This is more than a quirk—it leads to the persistence or adoption of norms only supported by a minority (eg prohibition):

Not to add to the discourse, but…

It’s ‘toe the line,’ not ‘tow the line.’
It’s ‘free rein,’ and not ‘free reign.’
It’s ‘eke out,’ not ‘eek out.’
It’s ‘sleight of hand,’ not ‘slight of hand.’
It's ‘Anchors aweigh,’ and not ‘Anchor's away!’

So it’s hard to understand for layman and does „I am not really sure“ about most questions now?

It’s out, finally: our paper connecting our various approaches to defining imprecise randomness. It’s called “Randomness and imprecision: from supermartingales to randomness tests”, and if you’re interested, you can download it using the following link:

And still, by far the most of it is probably emptier than the best vacuum we’ll ever create. And still, that we in the midst of all this vast emptiness are able to discover, witness and work to understand all this awesomeness fills me with wonder and hope.

Sorry hoor, maar die framing waarbij PDS het toonbeeld van verbinding zou zijn en RVDW autoritair en top-down, gaan we ons die echt zomaar laten opdringen?
