Friendly neighborhood microbiologist. PhD candidate at Arizona State University studying bacterial genetics. She/her. I'm allergic to 75 outdoor pollens, what's your superpower?
Hi - looking for resources for legal/financial support for international students whose visas have been revoked. I am personally connected to someone in this situation and I desperately want to help her with covering legal fees. Any resources help - we're in AZ and she's from an Arabic country.

Some coping mechanisms I can recommend:

- Scrolling through art feeds, looking at whales flying through pastel skies etc (e.g. @aplante.com)
- Find girl scouts, buy cookies
- Screaming. Screaming. Screaming into the basement. Blood curdling screams. Your neighbor isn't home, it's ok
- Pet a cat

In a few weeks, I get to be on some silly "Science for the People" type panels at a fan convention. One of these panels will be about celebrating women in STEAM, and I want to highlight especially underrepresented groups of women. Who would you like to see mentioned in a panel like that?

I'm giving my first official conference talk tomorrow!! I'm so excited to finally be getting a chance to participate in a major conference, and especially excited to be giving a talk and not just presenting a poster!

Question for people who use programming in biological research: if I have basic skill with R, what are good ways to continue building my skills if my lab doesn't use programming? And what can I do to show employers I have these skills if I have no official research output using them?

👋👋 I need to start building my science social network again since I'll hopefully be graduating with my PhD in a year or so and I've fled Twitter where all my contacts were 🥲
