Halloween is our 5 year anniversary and we celebrated with Trick ‘R Treat 🎃

The final shot of Mr Kreeg’s porch, haunted by the undead children, reminded me A HECK of a lot of “Bellingham sends his regards,” from Tales From The Darkside.

Both are quite frightening — love ‘em.

Buggering about with my best mate Oody visiting the filming locations from Let Sleeping Corpses Lie across the Peak District.

Weathers has been 100% English— chucking it down then gorgeous blue skies two seconds later!!

Back in England, at St Pancras awaiting my train to the Midlands, and have already texted my family group chat several very British observations — and none included the weather (it’s raining, naturally)

It’s good to be home!!!

Heading on a much-needed trip back home to see family. Got my movies downloaded, and by the… books of things (ahem) it’s gonna be a @talkscaredpod.bsky.social flight too.

Really excited to check out Neil’s debut! His podcast makes me love horror even more 👻 Give it a listen!

You hear Struzan’s name and immediately you can picture his work. What a legendary artist who made multiple generations excited to see films. What an incredible legacy.
Drew Struzan has passed away at the age of 78

He created many iconic movie posters

The world is going to hell so we are rewatching one of my favourite films tonight.

Drop Dead Gorgeous just landed back on streaming (paramount plus) so I get to relive the entire masterpiece along with this— possibly the funniest moment in the movie?

Sent this to my family chat this AM as I woke in the night, panicked and feeling so lost and untethered from the things that make me feel creativity, joy and humanity.
My incredibly talented sister (@gemseddon.bsky.social) shared this incredibly brilliant letter by Kurt Vonnegut. Important things for us all to practice, remember, and to share with others!

When I got the ARC for this I squealed— a new Sarah Gailey novel is an *event* — I’ve just started and cannot wait to see where this goes… (somewhere dark and brilliant, I suspect). Recommend ordering or placing on hold now!

Whoooooooo boy. Also a time to blatantly self-promote! 🎉

I love writing film criticism and I don’t often get the chance, but I’m always ready! ✍️
Went down a rabbit hole this morning: looks like a critic for a paying outlet may have faked a ton of reviews with ChatGPT. No matter how much you feed an LLM, it can’t hide that it, like the critic in question, hasn’t actually seen the film.

Couldn’t have put it better myself
AI is for writers who don’t like to write but want to have written, and readers who don’t like to read but want to have read.

Into the sea with the whole miserable joyless fucking lot of them.
People are reading AI-generated synopses of books and then claiming they read 100 books in a week. This is how the abolition of books began in Fahrenheit 451: classics were condensed into five-minute summaries for those too busy to do the reading. Later came the burnings.

Caught Weapons at our usual time (Saturday morning), and had 18 people in the screening which genuinely is packed for that little theatre. Gotta believe this is down to a phenomenal marketing campaign which betrays little of the meat of the story; I’ll be interested to see how it fares week 2!

My lovely friend @readswithdogs.bsky.social kindly snagged me a copy of the new Stephen Graham Jones, and @sgj.bsky.social signed it to me! 😍 Very grateful. (I was librarianing at the time, otherwise I’d have been there!— I will be at the next Seattle book tour stop!)

Sweetheart, Sweetheart — favourite book of the year so far (after King Sorrow). Late 70s English village life disrupted by a series of mishaps at a cottage. Taylor’s prose reminds me of books I read as a kid, sprawling, hazy delightful England… that’s full of terror. Strong recommend!
Having recently finished the latest Sarah Pinborough, I jumped into a much older horror tome— Bernard Taylor’s Sweetheart, Sweetheart— and they’re such perfect companion reads. English cottages, nefarious goings-on, steeped in atmos! Love when this sort of just happens!
