Manchester is building more new social, council, and genuinely affordable housing than for over a decade.🏡

These low carbon and affordable homes in sustainable communities are a vital part of our ambition and delivery as a @manchesterlabour.bsky.social Council.🏘🌳

Great progress, lots more to do.🏗
Looking forward to our Christmas in Withington event on Friday 5th December at 5pm to 6pm outside Withington Library on Rutherford Square.

Great to have a Brass Band, Choirs, the Drum Therapy Collective, Father Christmas and lots more on offer for our local community this Christmas.🎄🎅🎶🎺🎄

🌹Remembrance Sunday 2025.🌹

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning.

We will remember them.

Lest we forget.🌹🇬🇧

We have a number of poppies on lamp posts in Withington Village that have been put up by @mancitycouncil.bsky.social as part of a new partnership with Royal British Legion.

They help us remember and recognise the sacrifices made by our armed forces ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

Lest we forget.🌹🇬🇧

Great to see this significant investment in social, council and genuinely affordable housing in GM by a Labour government.

Crucially, a further £25.8m of funding to help brownfield sites to deliver new social housing at the heart of our communities.🏡

I also attended Environment, Climate Change, and Neighbourhoods Committee today to discuss our update on Housing Retrofit.

This is a really important area of policy to help deliver warmer and healthier homes, and lower bills for residents.

Pleased to see 37 new low carbon, social rent homes completed in Longsight by Watson in partnership with Jigsaw Homes.

Our @manchesterlabour.bsky.social councillors have been great champions for this housing scheme on a former brownfield site in their ward.🏡

We held our monthly litter pick, gardening and clean up event with the Friends of Old Moat Park group today.🌳

Lots of volunteers from our community helping to collect litter, sweep the paths and sports cages from fallen leaves, and plant some new flowers too.🍂🍁

At this week’s PMQs, I was called to ask a question for the first time since returning to the backbenches. I used that opportunity to raise the situation in Gaza, which I know is a concern for many of my constituents.

This Labour government is determined to drive a transformational and lasting change in the safety and quality of social housing.

Awaab’s Law will empower social tenants to hold their landlords to account and I'm extremely proud that we are bringing it into force today.
