Now that the legal question of assault by sandwich is settled, we need to ensure we’re on the right side of the law @chemjobber.bsky.social: Burritos and tacos are legally sandwiches. In Indiana (as of 2024)it is now legally required that you order a “taco sandwich”

Tacos and Burritos Ruled as Sandwiches in Indiana
Earlier this month, Judge Bobay of Allen County Superior Court in Indiana has ruled that tacos and burritos are technically Mexican-style “sandwiches” as part of his ruling in a zoning case.

The Outrage Machine, Oh, the Outrage Machine,
Most fiendish contraption that’s ever been seen.

It buzzes and whirs and it hums through the night,
it feeds on opinions and shits out a fight.

But still it keeps spinning, so vivid, so keen
Oh, cursed and beloved, the Outrage Machine.

The measles can still kill you, years after it is gone from subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE). SSPE develops an average of seven to 10 years after the initial measles infection and is caused by the measles virus lying dormant and later reactivating to damage the brain.
'The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its measles page today. As of October 14, 2025, the nation has recorded 1,596 confirmed cases in the USA so far this year, 33 more than last week.' @cidrap.bsky.social

~20% of Texans are allergic to mountain cedar pollen (Juniperus ashei), including ME.

Among people WITH allergies, 90% show an allergic reaction TO cedar pollen.

There are whole industries devoted to getting rid of them, so when I say that we NEED these botanical blights, I do so *under protest*.

This was my first MOF paper, and the first paper I published with Omar and Fraser.
(I published a second first author paper with both of them in JACS the next year on CO2 sequestration)

I dined out on these papers for so long.

It’s #chemnobel day. For me, and for quite a few other people who spent time in the Stoddart group, it will hit somewhat differently this year.

Seems the right time to share a couple of passages from the eulogy I gave at Fraser’s funeral earlier this year.
