Nothing says “freedom” more clearly than forcing children to chant their allegiance to a flag in cult-like unison on a daily basis.
How come these churches sing hymns and not Chuck Berry? Don’t they think Jesus likes Chuck Berry? Give Him some Johnny B. Goode on Sunday morning.

Remember when we all thought Huxley was right and Orwell was way off base? Well don’t we feel silly now.

Evangelical altar calls are brilliant. You just go up and say the magic words. Cheapest fire insurance you’ll ever buy.

Y’all ever go to one o’them churches where they close their eyes and raise their hands like they’re giving their energy to Goku for his Spirit Bomb?

You aren’t God’s gift to mankind, but that’s a good thing: Last time God gave a gift to mankind, they tortured Him to death.

Anyone who thinks Lovecraft invented cosmic horror has clearly never read the book of Job.

Apparently Evangelicalism considers empathy a sin now. Per Hebrews 4:15, “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.” They’ve given up on Scripture itself.

I seem to remember my school history books really playing up Quakers’ abolitionist work, never mentioning their earlier extremely complicated relationship with slavery. Were they being used to whitewash religion’s role in perpetuating the institution of slavery?

It’s still a work in progress, but I’ve begun Jekyll Integration and projectbarclay.org has a new look! A combination of free hosting through GitHub Pages and cheap domain registration makes this surprisingly affordable. I look forward to accidentally breaking it over and over in the future.

Many people misinterpret Christ’s words in Matthew 19:24. What he actually meant was, “It’s really easy to be rich and go to heaven. Keep buying your pastor’s books. He needs a new Mercedes.” Unrelated: did you know John MacArthur owns three homes

Now that I’ve figured out the verification problem, I’m happy to announce that Project Barclay’s site officially has its own domain at projectbarclay.org

Our weapons are spiritual, and not carnal, yet mighty through God, to the pulling down of the strongholds of sin and Satan, who is the author of wars, fighting, murder, and plots. -GF

I read an opinion once (don’t remember where) claiming that liberal Quakers abandoned Fox’s concept of Inward Light by redefining it in the context of Enlightenment-influenced individualism (or something to that effect). Have any #Quakers done actual reading/research related to this topic?

Barclay called his apology “An Apology for the True Christian Divinity.” He wasn’t defending a truth, or his truth. He was defending THE Truth. This is why George Fox went to jail, and why Mary Dyer went to the gallows: Because they had the Truth, and they knew it.

Ever wondered what #Quakers believe? It’s never been easier to find out! You can download the first five chapters of Barclay’s Catechism and the FULL rough draft of Barclay’s Confession of faith (forgive the typos) at the Project Barclay repository: garrett-ordner.github.io/project-barc...

In the mid seventeenth century, Massachusetts Puritans marched the Boston martyrs to the gallows for the crime of being Quakers. Are we willing to suffer for our faith as they did? Our test is coming.

Some Christians seem ominously eager to cry, “Deus vult”, when they’ve never even asked, “Quid est voluntas Dei?”

And keep out of the restless, discontented, disquieted spirit of the world about the government: for you know it has been always our way to seek the good of all, and to live peaceably under the government, and to seek their eternal good, peace, and happiness in the Lord Jesus Christ… -GF
