My garden has always been a refuge for me and I am hoping it will continue to do so. But, and this is important, I will continue to resist, I will not bury my head in the sand, even if the news is hard to bear. We must continue to be alert and engaged. Our future matters.xoxogail

My snow covered front garden habitat. It's almost melted, but it was lovely for 24 hours.

Hey corporate media,

Thou shalt not spend thousands of hours on one CEO’s shooting and only one hour on a classroom of children.

Still blooming after several freezes. You have to get this native witch-hazel in your garden. Hamamelis virginiana is wonderful.

I agree, we need to stay angry at the right people.
No distractions..
We gotta pay attention to the background noise...

Frost flowers on a cold morning. Verbesina Virginia's ice flowers are formed when sap pushes through the broken stem and freezes into ice swirls.#wildflowers

I love my CobraHead garden weeders. They make great gifts.
Maybe it’s the midwesterner in me, but I am often reluctant to self-promote on social media because it feels icky. But when you run a business, that’s kind of the whole point. So here’s a reminder that we are a completely family-run company and our garden tools are all made in Wisconsin.

Rhus aromatica or Fragrant Sumac is a cool understory shrub that colonizes delightfully in deep shade or sun. Attracts small bees and flies. #nativeshrubs #rhusaromatica#softlandingforcaterpillars

The understory in my garden is beautiful most autumns, but the drought was rough this year. What I love about native plants is they always spring back!

Excited to learn that a friend from the Midwest has read my leave the leaves blog posts and has begun leaving the leaves and moving them where they will do the most good for critters. So happy.
