Overhauled the data ingestion system and we should be good for the next two weeks. Over the next week or so, I'll be ingesting the next two MONTHS' of data, so this past week's data gap should be an entry in the back issue bin.

Due to a computer crash, the release information for November and December will be showing up later this week.

Mac OS X decided to crash on me and wipe out a weekend's worth of data entry as I was exporting the data to be sent to the server...

Just did a big data update to bring in the October issues for DC, Image, and Titan issue into the database.

Refresh your app if those issues are not appearing.

On this day in 1987, the Batman: Son of the Demon graphic novel went on sale, and included the brief appearance of the unnamed son of Batman and Talia al Ghul. It would be just short of 20 years before that son - Damian - would be seen again, eventually meeting his father and becoming the 5th Robin.

40 years ago today, I walked into the offices of Marvel Comics for my first day of work, nervous, but hopeful that I would eventually make my mark on the company and the industry.

It's been an incredible ride so far!

I came of age after Shooter's tenure at Marvel, but in addition to the superhero comics work, I'm also thankful for him getting the right people working on other properties like Transformers (Bob Budiansky) and G.I. Joe (Larry Hama) back when those properties needed proper mythos built.

THAT TIME I INKED RAMONA FRADON!
I'd completely forgotten about this page until asked if I had the original art (which I don't) to sell (which I wouldn't). A great honor & joy to work with Ramona, even just this once… and on METAMORPHO, even— soon to steal every scene in the upcoming SUPERMAN movie!

In the middle of getting caught up on data updates.

Shops are updated, conventions as well. Just pulled in the (semi) raw data for the past couple of weeks of Diamond.

As recently as a month ago, I'd be cataloging 10x the number of issues from Diamond.

It's the end of an era, folks.

WOW.

Given that @titanbooks.bsky.social is on this list, it looks like Diamond is burning every relationship they have, including with the publishers that might have stuck around.

My plan isn't to treat this as a software engineering thread, but for folks wondering how (re)populating shared collaboration graph is going, here's a thread on that.

At the rate this is going, I should have a pretty good picture of who all has worked with whom since 2011.
Taking a break from Real Work to do some Computer Science.

One of the things that I miss from early @freshcomics.us was the collaboration network between creators who shared issues or trades. As the database grew (and the creator list as well), my first algorithm didn't keep up.

With the new website launch, I'm also planning on pushing the sponsorships more.

If you have a new comic shop, Kickstarter, convention, signing event, or anything else that would be relevant to comic fans, get in touch.

The @freshcomics.us redesign is finished.

I'll be rolling it out tomorrow so that I can watch for any new server weirdness.

Even managed to pull some neglected features back into action, which is cool.

Forgot to turn on the new "Shared Issues" feature!

With that change, the creator page is basically finished.

Next: conventions, then the front page.

Creator pages are updated.

I kept the same primary table view of works that was in the last version, but added a new section with social media links to follow the creator, as well as some embedded Bluesky posts, if I have the creator's handle.

Using @ffrancavilla.bsky.social as the test for this.

The shop listing page is pretty much finished.

In its past incarnation, it was a basic map and that was it.

The new version keeps a smaller version of the map, but uses the browser location to do a more localized search. There's also a text search to find any shop in the database now.

I have the @freshcomics.us shop page template finished.

It's been reorganized to better reflect the importance of various details, and I've added the ability to pull in the latest Bluesky post when shops have accounts here. (I'll be reusing this on creator pages, too!)

It's better on mobile too.

VERY happy to see the old Comixology guys back in the digital comics game. They introduced me to a TON of indie titles back in the day, and I miss that.

As much as I love physical comics, I only have limited space, which 60+ years of X-Men issues have claimed. Digital is a great way to explore.
