The Western Cape High Court has made an order in the DA and EFFs VAT case: VAT hike is suspended. The fiscal framework is set aside. Order was made this afternoon (Sunday) by agreement between the parties, after a meeting with the judges.

If after Tuesday I never have to think about VAT again, it will be too soon

The way I’m getting notifications and sms’s about vat increases today “dear client”, “dear customer”. Maybe they don’t think the courts are going to interdict

Godongwana says the DA is seeking to “reframe a political disagreement as a constitutional crisis. This is not the proper function of urgent judicial intervention.” www.timeslive.co.za/sunday-times...
Suspending the VAT hike would have ‘severe and far-reaching’ consequences: Godongwana

Interesting statistic from the LPC: as at July last year, out of a total 33110 attorneys in South Africa, 16,697 were black and 15,853 were white (560 “race not specified”) - white attorneys still disproportionately over represented given our population demographics, no?

Very confused by noise about “race-based laws”. Legislation to promote the achievement of equality is expressly provided for by the constitution. If you have a problem, mobilize for a constitutional amendment 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Does anyone on here have access to the SA criminal law reports? 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Thread: This article by would-be ambassador to SA, Joel Pollack refers to an SABC report that quotes the ANC’s spokesperson as calling on all South Africans to unite against right-wing “races”. However… t.co/8hcKuEwRLY

Bummed that I am missing argument on behalf of MKP in court today and I’m hearing that Mpofu SC is making a compelling case.

Just been told there is no live feed at the Hlophe hearing today.
February 26, 2025 at 8:03 AM
Don’t mind me, just here having a meltdown
February 25, 2025 at 8:58 AM
This is lesson that I should have learnt long ago. GO TO COURT. Don’t rely on live feeds. Yassass, fok man.
February 25, 2025 at 8:55 AM
I didn’t physically make it to the Western Cape High Court for the case about whether Dr Hlophe should be permanently barred from the JSC today (kid broke her arm among other factors). But I will be following the case virtually

Evidence in Parker Tribunal done and dusted in a day without him testifying and without his counsel asking a single question. Now they are deciding on dates for closing argument

There is a website called the Daily Friend (describes itself as the online newspaper of the Institute for Race Relations) which has reproduced the first paragraphs of my story in latest Sunday Times word for word (except for where I quoted Pabasa’s Nomgcobo Jiba) under the byline of staff writer.

I wrote something on what the DA’s court case on the Expropriation Act is NOT about. And what it is about. DA’s Helen Zille said the narrow focus of its case was after discussion with lawyers.

DA court case on Expropriation Act does not challenge expropriation without compensation
DA's Helen Zille says the narrow focus of the case was a matter of 'strategy'
