I (and perhaps you) get confused because we think intellect has to be connected with wisdom or thoughtfulness, but it just doesn’t. Intelligence is values-neutral and amplifies whatever it is pointed at.

On the 18th we need to be vigilant for increased violence and provocation by both law enforcement and counter-protestors, both of which will be used to try to justify more violence and authoritarianism.

IMO the right call here: www.cascadiadaily.com/2025/oct/07/.... Electric buses are only going to get better and cheaper, and diesel buses are already so much better than solo driving that it's a net win if it keeps a few more cars off the road.

The zesty jumble argument is baaaack! www.seattletimes.com/opinion/pike...
Reheated as: "Its lively and gritty mix of pedestrians, cars and delivery vans has existed since its founding and was deemed vital to the Market’s continued health and survival." 🙄🙄🙄

The analogy I'm increasingly turning to to describe LLMs is "word-Roomba." It does a kind of mediocre job most of the time, but it is a job that you no longer have to do or think hard about. And you do have to make sure that it doesn't hit a cat turd and smear it all over the room.

The city of Berkeley needs to completely retire HAWK signals. Motorists do not respect or understand any light that isnt a three light red yellow green. Any place that warrants a hawk should just be a 3 light that changes when the ped arrives.

I wish UIViewController had a method you could override that the system would call once your view had finished laying out its subviews. They could call it something like “viewDidLayoutSubviews”. But that name is already used for a method that gets called when the subviews are not actually laid out.

The moral panic of the anglosphere over bus fare evasion and proof-of-payment is quite something.

Especially when you think that we do accept another mobility-related widespread PoP system: on-street parking, which is entirely charged via a proof-of-payment + inspector system.
Correct. Swallowed up by the panic over fare evasion.
