Wilson was mocked for acknowledging that the cost of childcare is outrageous and her parents help her with that expense. But it turns out a majority of voters feel the same squeeze, liked her universal childcare plan, and voted accordingly.
Katie Wilson wins Seattle mayoral race, incumbent Bruce Harrell appears to be preparing to concede

The exciting race for Mayor of Seattle can now be called. With almost no ballots left to count, challenger Katie Wilson has an advantage that incumbent Bruce Harrell cannot overcome.

nothing to see here, just Donald Trump's top henchmen summoning members of congress to a secure room where they can't be record that is sometimes used for ordering people killed in order to persuade them not to release the Epstein files
My god (sorry I’m late on a bunch of this stuff. But wow!)

According to this NYT report, the head of the FBI and the Attorney General are holding meetings *in the Situation Room* with GOP lawmakers they are trying to pressure to rescind their votes to release the Epstein info. This is madness.

Literally the one place in the country where Democrats got their clock cleaned was in the home county of state chair who refused to endorse Mamdani and has generally overseen a string very poor democratic performances.
Has New York Democratic Party chairman Jay Jacobs resigned over Mamdani yet? I hope he hasn't, so that he can instead resign over *improving Republican margins over Trump 2024 in an anti-Republican wave election*. Trump won Nassau by just 4%—now look at this bloodbath

one last observation: donald trump has never won a majority of the vote and yet the political press treats him like the embodied spirit of the american people. will be interesting to see how they discount mamdani as representing new york if he wins less than a majority.

Democrats have flipped 2 seats in the Mississippi senate, and in so doing they've broken the GOP's supermajority in the chamber.

UPDATE: the incumbent school board, who voted against the ban on trans girls and is now facing the mother of the complaining student, is leading in results so far.
I'd totally missed this:

In Tumwater, WA, a HS student complained about a trans basketball player. Then, the local school board passed a resolution to ban trans girls from girl sports.

Now, the mother of that student is running against the sole school board member to vote against the resolution.

BREAKING: Democrat Johnny DuPree has flipped a Republican-held Mississippi Senate district in a special election.

DuPree was previously the mayor of Hattiesburg.

His win imperils the Mississippi Senate GOP's narrow supermajority.

The factional grifters will hate this, but the Mamdani-Spanberger-Sherrill axis actually suggests the outlines of a broad, emerging Dem coalition organized around both anti-Trump *and* affordability politics, not a party bitterly divided against itself.
These big wins will embolden Dems to take on Trump's lawbreaking and show there's a price for GOP enabling of him. Folks hate to hear this, but normal patterns are asserting themselves: Liberalism isn't dead, Rs are likely to lose in 2026, and Trump is really unpopular, not a magical exception.

i want to repeat this: mamdani and spanberger have run similar campaigns tailored to their respective electorates and it is maddening to watch political journalists attempt to create some broad contrast where none exist
the other thing about this is that there is no reason to pit these candidates against each other? each are good fits for their respective electorates and each shows the value of vigorous campaigns focused on the stated material problems of voters.

Texas has a special election for Sylvester Turner's seat (TX-18), a full seven months after he died, because Abbott capriciously delayed it.

A simple, long overdue reform would be for Congress to mandate by federal law how soon after a vacancy special elections have to happen.

I saw about 5 “No king but Jesus” signs on Saturday in my small, heathen city in Connecticut
Here's a key exchange. Rep Chip Roy smeared protesters for not believing we have "no king but Jesus," but @anamariecox.bsky.social reports seeing many protesters in his district on No Kings' side with signs bearing more pious religious messages than his.

Buddy I’m going to need you to say somewhere in your text or on your landing page what district or even what STATE you’re running in.

There’s a Milford and a Lynnfield in almost every state.

Absolutely shameless to send this right after the #nokings protest.

The landing page has fine print saying the PAC is not affiliated with the No Kings protest, but they know most people, especially the seniors they are targeting, won’t see that.

Semi-rural Idaho here. Nearly a 1000 people showed up, and we had ZERO opposition. Also the car and bystander ratio of folks in support has gone from about 50% to something like 80% over the last year. If you'd told me this in January I wouldn't have believed you.
