so, so much of what people rightly hate about "tech" has nothing to do with technology and everything to do with the pathologies of venture capital outlined in this thread
the thing about VCs is that they don't want the companies they invest in to succeed, necessarily. They want them to either grow rapidly and massively or fail quickly. Slowly building a market? Growing stably and sustainably? These things fuck up the VC business model and are anathema.
Then he discusses when to stop blitzscaling. Looks at companies that got big fast through blitzscaling (Groupon), but then the technique stopped working & they cratered. So, uh, in hindsight, they should have stopped doing it.

Take big risks with your business. But only ones that work out. Got it.👍

Finally, I told Horowitz that I would not be responding to his emails any more, unless he paid me $150 an hour because this seemed like therapy for him.

He tried to argue about that.

My conclusion: He had a broken soul. No wonder he became a mentor of Stephen Miller.

Yes, Trump’s crypto grifts, well reported in NYT, reveal unprecedented corruption. But they also reveal that the people who can ruin the economy are in effect shorting the US dollar.

The U.S. Census Bureau has now reached a tipping point.

Its staffing is so low that it's canceling future waves of longstanding surveys such as the Census of Governments. It's inevitable that other surveys are next.
