Pet parrots which typically live alone (whilst those in the wild live in large flocks) were given the technology to call each other. They would use it for up to three hours a day, and developed favourite friends 💔

A lot of discussion about AI misses this. The algorithms aren't *neutral* - they're created and operated by people and corporations with agendas, and those operators will choose their bottom line over your success and wellbeing 10/10 times.
Here’s the bottom line for what’s going on with Grok - if the owner of the website is putting his thumb on the scale hard enough for the chatbot to turn into Goebbels, you should be deeply concerned about what he’s doing to the algorithm that you can’t so easily see, and what it’s doing to you

Noem is deploying a paramilitary government agency to, in her own words, liberate a city from the duly-elected lawful governor and mayor of that city. This is literally an illegal coup and impeachment is NOT sufficient. She must be arrested and removed from office.
Kristi Noem: "We are not going away. We are staying here to liberate the city from the socialists and the burdensome leadership that this governor and that this mayor have placed on this country and what they have tried to insert into the city."

Sen. Alex Padilla is then forcibly removed!

It's hard to know what to say about this level of obvious, naked ghoulishness. "The company was not sufficiently anti-consumer enough to make the profit we expect"..."there's too much scrutiny for us to be properly evil"...

Capitalism is eating itself and all of us alive...
"The group, which seeks...damages, argues that the public backlash prevented the company from pursuing "the aggressive, anti-consumer tactics that it would need to achieve" its earnings goals."

do you have a moment to discuss the Good News of dialectical materialism?

Hey, remind me how those 'reluctant moderates' handle events in Rogue One? You should probably watch the whole fucking story first...
It's very to me that the show makes clear that it's not the radicals who win the war in the end but the very reluctant moderates who want the Republic back.

I don't really care what the "political consequences" are of fighting for the proposition that *everyone* is entitled to due process before they are removed from the United States and sent to a Salvadoran prison.

It's not really a principle if you only adhere to it when it's politically expedient.

Hey @kaine.senate.gov @markwarner.bsky.social

Y’all ready for bank runs?

You think your Republican friends are gonna wake up when we get bank runs?
BREAKING — DOGE will descend upon Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) buildings tomorrow, an agency source tells me.

FDIC is responsible for insuring all commercial/personal US bank accounts for up to $250k and regulating banks. Scary in light of Trump’s manipulation of markets this week.

Marco Rubio just made the argument, bold faced, not a mistake an intentional statement, that at any time the US can revoke your visa and then you are instantly here illegally and they can arrest you, deport you, torture you, all without any due process.

That means the United States is simply unsafe

Not to be a wide-eyed naïf about such things but... am I right in thinking that they levelled an entire building to get to one guy and *that* is not controversial to anyone in the American media or political class, only that this information was recklessly shared in an unsecured chat?

Hey, American Service Members and family members: this is what the current admin thinks of protecting your operational security. This is how careless they are. They will make this mistake again, with your lives on the line, because they Just. Do. Not. Care
American war planning usually takes place in highly secure facilities. But the Trump administration planned its strikes on the Houthis using a group chat—and accidentally included The Atlantic’s editor in chief, @jeffreygoldberg.bsky.social. theatln.tc/AmsjsuT6

If it isn't obvious, you aren't safe in this Trump Administration. Dictators come after anyone and everyone deemed a threat, including their former allies and loyalists.

The next generation of Democratic leaders need to be thinking about how, if they do ever hold power again, how they're going to reassure the world we don't just turn around 4-8 years later and elect another Trump. How could our allies possibly trust us again without major, major reforms?
