When begged to retake the throne of the Roman Empire Diocletian responded: "If you could see the cabbages that I planted with my own hands, you would not suggest that I exchange the peace and happiness of this place for the storms of a never-satisfied greed".

I’m 137 pages in and I have to psyche myself up every time I read this because not much has happened yet. This author uses waffling, rambling descriptions and imagery ad nauseam. This could possibly be the book that breaks me. The first book I ever DNF. Oh and it’s 1024 pages long. *sigh*

I loved Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. Jacob Elordi surprised me. He gave yearning, meaning, childlike wonder & soul to Victor Frankenstein’s monster. The juxtaposition of cruelty between Victor’s father & himself as the creator of his “son” the monster, is incredibly executed. My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The one thing that upsets me about entering the legal profession is that I’m not allowed to participate in jury duty. I would love to experience it.

This system is unconscionable and treats indigenous people like second-class citizens. A violation of human rights too, I wager. 😡 Thousands of Indigenous households across northern Australia live with prepaid power, where disconnection can happen at any moment.

Only Ryan Murphy could butcher one of my favourite songs, Ventura Highway. *sigh* Do yourself a favour and don’t watch All’s Fair. It’s so bad.

Watched the first ep. of All’s Fair. I don’t know why Ryan Murphy decided to play music over dialogue, but it’s incredibly irritating to sit through an entire episode of it happening. Kim Kardashian’s mansion has more depth of character and screen presence than she does. I’m not vibing this at all.

The welfare system is often used as a powerful surveillance tool for police and security agencies.

Where someone is evading arrest, especially longer-term—it's entirely possible cancelling welfare payments may make apprehending them more difficult. You are also *provoking* a known violent offender.
Did they think this through? Probably no.
But how are the cops going to track them when now they no reason to go near or access their bank account?

Of all the books I’ve read nothing will compare to the imagery, the slow introduction to the Salinas Valley and the intricately detailed family history in East of Eden. Not to mention the symmetry between the two generations in the story which the film totally misses. Steinbeck is brilliant.
