No BBC bias latest!

I cannot think of a more twisted way of reporting what's happening in brussels between EU & UK.

New Absolute Units is here!

Throughout history, people have pitted town & country against each other. Where does this dynamic come from? And how do we transcend it?

In this two-part episode, @georgemonbiot.bsky.social joins us to explore these questions & more.

There is a small subset of pro-Starmer ultras on here who either genuinely don’t understand that budget stories *are directly briefed out by the Treasury, with permission* or pretend not to know that. And so they claim the plans never existed, haven’t changed, etc. It is maddening, and dumb as fuck.

Ah the 1970s.

Stagflation, three day weeks, collapsing infrastructure. Civil War in Northern Ireland. In yer face racism and bigotry everywhere. Bin strikes. Strikes in general. Blackouts. Industrial decline. Wage inequality. Dog crap everywhere. And households spent 25% of their income on food.

I do not understand those still attempting to defend Labour. Every day the gap between them and Reform, on immigration, trans and non-binary rights, disabled individuals etc shrinks. Human rights have to apply to everyone or they end up applying to no-one. #r4today

Somehow UK governments seem to have decided that political leadership is best demonstrated by a series of leaks to newspapers which are then denied, and daily ministerial media rounds of denial in support of grid announcements nobody notices.

Can we just raise tax for people on decent incomes (and I include myself in this) and be done with it? And crack on actually making things better - for all of us - because lo and behold, the money I would save on tax doesn't buy me good schools, unis, roads, trains, prisons, GPs on my own.
God help us, it looks like utter chaos in there.
Starmer and Reeves ditch plans to raise income tax in budget

Weak, weak, weak. Looking back on electoral failure with the knowledge that you did what was fiscally right & necessary is very different from looking back with the knowledge that you bottled it.
Thanks to months of pitch rolling, the Labour government has now effectively told anyone paying attention that income tax rises are necessary, but they’re not going to do them because they’re politically weak. Let’s see how that plays!

now that they've stopped making pennies, americans should update our sayings:

* you can't put your two cents in, you must now put your five cents in
* nickel for your thoughts?
* a nickel saved is a nickel earned
* nickels from heaven
* worth every nickel
* penny-pinchers are now nickel-misers

Just a reminder, the coward who refused to accept an election loss in 2020 and then committed crimes trying to overthrow that election will certainly cheat, abuse his powers, and break the law to try to win the 2026 & 2028 elections.

He’s a real threat to democracy. Believe it.

Epstein offered the NY Times photos of Trump with young girls in bikinis during his first campaign in 2015.

The NY Times declined them because they were just too busy hyperventilating over Hillary’s private email server.

There are four leaks to plug for Trump: the survivors, Ghislaine Maxwell, the Epstein Estate, and the 1000+ FBI and DoJ employees he locked in a building and forced to remove his name from the files.

Good luck, asshole.

They rounded a bunch of random Venezuelans with tats and pretended they were in tren de aragua, then started blowing up random Venezuelan boats they claim “carried drugs,” in order to slowly groom their base into supporting a full ground war on Venezuela that was always about oil
Whole bunch of stuff beginning to make a lot of sense.

University free speech latest. This sounds* pretty grim and I'm pleased Jewish students don't have to put up with it on their campus. But why are students from other minoritised groups not entitled to the same consideration? Why must they endure appalling attacks on their humanity?

Even worse… it’s a belief that if you’re gonna get caught, the only way to escape punishment is to make it so egregiously bad, it crashes the economy.

And even if it doesn’t, you can just ask Daddy Trump to pardon you… Or not even prosecute you in the first place

The Great Recession changed everything

It showed that corrupt rich people could crash the world economy, get bailed out, not face any consequences & even keep getting bonuses

Now all they have to do is wave their arms and chant “Too Big to Fail!”
