Lukewarm takes on Arsenal, Avalanche, and design.
I will never get inured to the playacting and embellishment that the big Iberian and Italian clubs do when the chips are down. It’s all so cynical and contrary to what I enjoy about sports.

Nerves are up anyway, but Ray Hudson commentating isn’t going to make it any better. What a weirdo.

Can somebody explain to me why the ref was fine to play on when Real had the advantage, but play was blown dead when Arsenal reclaimed possession?

Champions League would be a lot more fun if there weren’t favored clubs that seem to get the benefit of the doubt at every turn. Nothing that can’t be overcome, but the standard of what constitutes a foul is very obviously different between the two sides.

The Denver-Providence hockey game streaming at a buttery-smooth 12 frames per second on ESPN+. Just super watchable.

If we’re going to insist on national anthems before every sporting event, we at least need to implement a minimum tempo requirement. 🥱

Rightly called offside, but it does illustrate how naïve we seem to be against Newcastle. Gotta switch brains back on after that warning.

Do I care enough about the League Cup to suffer Troy Deeney on the broadcast?

I don’t blame Arsenal for taking a cheap flyer on Sterling, but he’s beyond washed at this point. Wild that we’re having to rely upon him at all.

If there’s one thing that I’ve learned in the aftermath of the Mikko Rantanen trade, it’s that the delta between smart hockey fans and dumb hockey fans might rival soccer as the widest in sports.

Sometimes I’m tempted to design and print “Joan Callamezzo Book Club” stickers to put on random covers when I accompany my wife to the bookstore.

I talk a lot of shit about Premier League referees, and tend to be pretty defensive of NHL refs. It’s been the worst year I can remember for both.

Rewatching season 1 of Severance because I bifurcated the part of my brain that enjoyed it from the part that remembers any of it.
January 25, 2025 at 11:54 PM
At this time, I’m glad I hadn’t invested more in Mikko Rantanen jerseys. 🤯

Between some of the antics from Dinamo (and their fans) and the refs, this is about as annoyed as I could be with Arsenal up 1-0 off a beautiful early goal.

I listen to roughly 1.6 million different podcasts, the majority of which feature professional writers/broadcasters. They have somehow all forgotten the distinction between “less” and “fewer.”

Hi, it’s me, the guy that thinks it’s better that Arsenal didn’t earn the corner they scored from. That lot are so funny when they’re big mad. 😂

I dunno if the Broncos are good enough to win this game, but I like that they’re not going to coward themselves out of it.
January 12, 2025 at 6:51 PM
Stewart Robson opens his mouth and clocks everywhere start running backward.
January 12, 2025 at 5:24 PM
Can the Broncos play the Chiefs backups every week, please?
January 5, 2025 at 10:40 PM
Hold that L, Sabres. Enjoy yet another season without playoffs, loser-ass franchise.
January 3, 2025 at 4:56 AM
I guess it’ll be progress no matter how you slice it, but it sure feels to me like the Broncos are going to let the playoffs slip away from them.

Arsenal win. Avalanche win. Not a bad sports day for me.

PGMOL remains an unserious organization. Full on rugby tackle in the box, and nothing doing. What a joke.

I love how much the Premier League prioritizes stamping out time wasting (right up until it’s done against us).
