Red admirals can hang around until as late as Nov - some will even remain for the winter. In Sept they are still happily on the wing.

Hedgerow & fallen fruit is a great source of food during the autumn. Leaving ivy to flower also provides a good source of nectar when little else is flowering

It's 1 Sept & hedgerow management can begin. But wait....
Where possible, cutting on rotation in Jan/Feb instead can provide valuable resources for wildlife:

🪶🫐Berries over winter for birds
🌲🌳Diversity in structure
🐝🌼Flowers for insects in spring
