I know somebody already posted this in regards to Fantasia but that quote from Back to the Future sums up well the attitude people had of this movie back then:

"Guess you guys aren't ready for that yet. But your kids are gonna love it."

A ★★★★★ review of Fantasia (1940)
Animation is often underappreciated as an art form. It can do amazing things like transport an audience to another world, make things come alive, and show how one interprets music. Fantasia is truly a...

Anyone notice how in the first half of Fantasia, the segments (even the more lighthearted ones) have somewhat sombre atmosphere then it gets lighter with Pastoral and Dance of the Hours before getting back into dark with Night on Bald Mountain?

No one will ever convince me that this character is supposed to be villainous especially compared to the the alligators who showed up right beforehand.

Say what you will about the designs on the covers for Disney's older movies during the early 2010s, but I kinda dig this. Concept wise, it's a pretty good representation of both films, preferable to the floats with production stills cover Fantasia 2000 had.

So, on the Making of Fantasia special on the DVD, how come they don't include the music for when they discuss Rite of Spring and instead use sound effects? Was it a music rights issue?

For those who don't know, he recalls: "Walt said 'Don't animated it like Pluto or like the dwarfs. But animate it like a real dinosaur' and the animators would say 'Yeeeeeeeahhh. What does he mean like a real dinosaur? Who's going to know?'"

It was the delivery that was hilarious.
Like watching how they talk about the Rite of Spring segment on the DVD bonus features did give me more appreciation for it than I had when I was younger. Frank Thomas talking about how they should animate the dinosaurs was quite funny.

The 90s poster had a similar concept but I also kinda like how Mickey's smirking up at Chernabog not showing an inch of fear where the latter could be looking at him like: "What you're not scared? Ah you're no fun anymore!"

For a long time, I was having this as neck to neck with Sleeping Beauty as my favorite Disney film. While Sleeping Beauty is second for me, Fantasia definitely tops the animation canon for me, especially now that I'm older.
Eighty-five years ago today, Fantasia was released. One of the biggest landmarks in animated filmmaking, this film that pairs Disney's animation with classical music is a revolution thanks to its brilliant music and top-tier animation that helped set the stage for music videos.

My last couple of watched movies on Letterboxd definitely give you an idea of how I roll with what I watch.

What’s that? I’m using their mascot to express my frustrations? Of course I am. Because if Mickey we’re real, he definitely wouldn’t approve.

The humans on the left have a more natural look to them whereas the ones on the right are more stylized a clear sign that Bluth was not inolved.

*Sigh* I'd seriously love to believe that last one would make parents think that. But unfortunately, not everyone takes away certain messages that any film (animated or otherwise) has to put out there.
I'm glad the villain of the new Toy Story is a child's tablet. I hope the film conveys how screens eat up a child's hobbies, interests, literacy, ability to function socially. I hope it provokes millions of parents to think twice before making the iPad a babysitter.

Also Dom DeLuise with some of his most well known animated characters went from voicing a crow allergic to cats to a cat who (in the sequel anyway) initially hates dogs to a homeless dude who loves both dogs and cats to a dog whose relationship with cats is not specified.

I kinda liked the first one so we’ll see how this one plays out. As someone else said, there is an actual sense of wonder and magic in this image.
