How “intelligent” is a slime mold? When it solves mazes, it might not be thinking:it’s obeying physics. Our new paper with

In #Germany, a court ruled that #OpenAI violated #copyright law by using protected #songlyrics without permission. The court says that each time a copyrighted song is used, either for training or in an chat answer, OpenAI must pay a license fee to the artists.

#arXiv will no longer accept #CcomputerScience review papers unless they’re already accepted elsewhere. The reason: too many low-quality and #AI-generated submissions.

I have a number of colleagues who think that LLMs will be very useful as individualized tutors.

One of their arguments is that unlike previous generations of AI tutors, LLMs have the full context window of the conversation and that’s better understand what a student knows and doesn’t know.

🧠 Microglia are the brain’s living sensors — extending and retracting their fine “feet” to shape synapses, sense activity, and repair tissue.

In this clip from Forrest Collman’s EM team, a microglia (purple) reaches across a neuron (gold), revealing the brain’s hidden choreography.

Latest from the lab: Laura Haetzel finds that excitatory transmission from auditory thalamus to tail of striatum is accompanied by a sparse inhibitory projection. This allows for state-dependent control of striatal output.

In a sense yes, but does network science help us understand the brain as a complex system? Intriguing paper.
If anything the paper has 800+ refs!

Neural manifolds that orchestrate walking and stopping

Here we develop a new theory for neural generation of walking and how it can stop- Next we test the theory using Neuropixels probes in the lumber spinal cord of freely moving rats. See more:

This weekend was #CheapArt in #Bonn again. Local artists showed their work, and the idea was simple: #art at prices people can actually afford. It was a good chance to support the artists directly, without gallery walls in between 👌

A tad late (announcements coming) but very happy to share the latest developments in my previous preprint!

Previously, we show that neural representations for control of movement are largely distinct following supervised or reinforcement learning. The latter most closely matches NHP recordings.
