It’s a GOOD THING we NEED IT TO HAPPEN and THAT is why we should refuse to have any discussion of limiting migration. It’s not about the fascist threat (that Labour is absolutely pandering to right now). It’s about the fact that it’s actually something we shouldn’t concede.

There is a perfectly logical centrist market-based argument for migration to the UK. We have a falling birth rate, £5 trillion in future pension liabilities, not to mention a national skills service in loads of key industries including both low (care) and high (computing) paid work.

Immigration is a good thing for Britain and I don’t just mean that in a vague “my kid made roti at nursery this week for Diwali and I like ordering jerk chicken and chips for lunch at my local pub”. I mean: it’s a good thing for our national finances, for our infrastructure, for our skills economy.

The main achievement of the tech industry has been increasing the flow of money from people who make or do things to people who already have more money than they could spend in a hundred lifetimes

seems that RFK is clearing the path for his CDC to do tuskegee syphillis experiments as a matter of course. in other news, RFK is a genuine monster who relishes in the pain and suffering of those he feels he has control or dominion over
RFK is undoing human subjects protections so he can conduct placebo trials of vaccines. That means infecting people knowingly. I wonder who will “volunteer” for these trials? If history is any guide, a lot of incarcerated and other powerless people.
Dismantling the Institutional Review Board (IRB), that oversees all human subjects research, is bad. Really bad.

Saw Hamnet at the LFF today - thought it was really quite bad. Shakespeare in Love for people who think they’re too good for Shakespeare in Love. Shrinks that truly amazing play to make it somehow a puzzle to be unlocked by supposed / imagined autobiography.

The Right to Protest obliterated in the UK.
Protest requires repeated protests to be effective. This continues the state repression of any kind of protest that can actually challenge the state or capital. But what the government forgets is that ending the legal routes opens the illegal routes.

Literally last week every MAGA idiot around was insisting, loudly, how terrible it was that the Biden admin pressured YouTube to remove COVID misinfo, even as YouTube said it ignored the pressure. Those same folks will either be silent or cheer this on:
This was done at the direction of Pam Bondi. The US government is now dictating what apps you can have on your phone.

The underlying threat here is if Apple didn't comply, they'd slap billions in tariffs on Apple products.

And why call it 'golden ticket'?

Disgraceful language. These people have lost everything. Should they also lose their spouses and children?

A reminder that last year 4,671 family reunion visas were granted.

4,671.

Does anyone think this number is a major problem for the UK economy and society?
People recognised as refugees fleeing persecution & granted the right to live in the UK to be denied the right to be joined safely by their spouse & children.

This Labour govt is a moral void, a stinking darkness, an empty hollow of cowardice & contempt. #r4today www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

Klein: “I want these results regardless of tactics”
Coates: “I will do good things regardless of results.” Reminded of C Hedges’ quote “I don’t fight fascists cuz I will win. I fight them because they r fascists.” BUT: more ppl who act accordingly, better shape we wind up in. So, not fatalistic!
This was revealing. Worth reading. The basic demand is that Coates spend less time thinking/writing his true feelings and more time playing political strategist. Klein asks him over and over him to do Dem strategy; he says no, over and over. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/28/o...

Starmer & McSweeny accepting and legitimising Reform rhetoric is the most dismal, morally-bankrupt and politically counter-productive act of a supposed left government since Blair sent us into Iraq. It’s multiple vectors of awful and it’s going to end in disaster unless the party wakes up.
