I made a starter pack for evo/devo folks on here. Please let me know if you want to be added! Planning spin-off ECR and PoC lists, too, if you'd rather be on one of those.

Very excited to have been ably to join the Canadian Institute of Health Research Institute of Genetics New PI workshop. Such an invaluable experience for so many reasons - my mind is buzzing! Grateful to CIHR IG for covering so much of the cost of this workshop...

@fishguy.bsky.social you should know, I've nicknamed your scanner Mushu because I saw this and all I could hear, in my head, was Eddie Murphy's voice going, "Look, you got data! And it's happy to see you."

I spoke to Wired about the 23andMe bankruptcy and how the company would protect your data. Spoiler: It won't.

being an indie bookseller in the helltimes has felt both very stable and very stabilizing, and part of me wishes everyone could be on my side of the counter for a little while, because I think it would help some of you be a little less cynical and doomy right now. so here is my VERY anecdotal data:

🇨🇦 folks - please pass on the message : #BruceFanjoy for the win. He’s going up against #Poilievre in his riding - and has been working his ass off for over a year.

If you’re on any other social media, spread the word.

Knock Poilievre out. Crush him.

Columbia University agreed to a mask ban to appease Trump.

The school is no longer safe for disabled individuals, not to mention anyone who protests or speaks out on civil rights or Palestine.

Whatever your politics, mask bans should enrage you. They violate our freedom to avoid infection.

This is very very cool and opens up options for treatment in cases like my mom's (and to a lesser degree, probably mine, though I don't have a formal Dx) because she could not tolerate hormones. She had to stop birth control due to it paralyzing half her body temporarily.

Things far more important for the Canadian economy than tax cuts for millionaires:

* Dental, pharma, vision care.
* Clean indoor air.
* Worker safety.
* Mental health care.
* Environmental health.
* Education.
* Support for chronically ill and disabled folks.
* Research funding.

so far I'm seeing a lot of universities respond to grant terminations with

"oh I guess now we don't have that grant anymore"

instead of

"your assertion of a grant termination is executive overreach, see you in court"

So, universities: respectfully, what the fuck?

I've started to realize that Anne Frank and her family wouldn't have been safe around a lot of people I know and loved and once respected.

That's not something you get over.

Just got a notice that it's time for me to complete my cyber security awareness training for my university. Meanwhile, an unelected foreign national has the keys to internal servers in several key federal agencies including the US Treasury and likely has my personal identifying information.

In 2016 the NYT ran multiple front page stories page about the grave national security risk of Hillary Clinton's server.

If yours is on the list, call and share your thought. If you are represented by a Republican Senator they need to hear from you even more
