“I fear that machines are ahead of morals by some centuries and when morals catch up perhaps there'll [be] no reason for any of it.” —Harry S Truman

He was meditating on atomic warfare, but I think this is equally applicable to AI.

Matthew divides Jesus's genealogy into three parts: 14 from Abraham to David, 14 from David to the Babylonian Exile, and 14 from the Exile to Jesus. 14 + 14 + 14 = 42. What's 42? The meaning of life, the universe, and everything in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Coincidence? I think not. :)

This seems to be the year that EVERY single company is doing a Spotify Wrapped style end-of-year recap. Like, I wouldn't be surprised if MyChart had a "Your Year in Doctors Visits" wrap-up: "This year you saw 8 different doctors, underwent 2 procedures, and filled 30 prescriptions." Enough already!

“Wizards of Winter by trans-Siberian Orchestra has been living rent-free in my mind since I went to a tree-lighting ceremony last night.

Lyric from #TaylorSwift's "All Too Well" 15-minute version:>

"Here we are again watching Wallace and Gromit
You really liked the movie but it made me want to vomit
Rabbit was Were / I was there / I remember it
All too well."

My #AnimalCrossing Pocket Camp Complete camper card, in case anyone else is playing. I myself am excited to get back into the game without the annoyance of in-app purchases.

Today’s #NYTXW felt harder than average for a Saturday to me, but 1) I’m a bit out of practice, and 2) I was in a car, so wasn’t giving it my undivided attention. Spoilers in 🧵

I am beginning to like cigars a little too much. They are nice on occasion, but the last thing I need in my life is another addiction.

I am seeing the word “moot” appearing here on BlueSky in a non-Tolkien context? Not complaining, just curious!

SOMETHING TO KEEP YOU OFF THE LEDGE:

"If you ever get the blues about the status of American culture, there are still more public libraries than there are McDonald's. During the worst of the Depression, not one public library closed its doors."

Because OF COURSE Tolkien tried to write “The Man in the Moon” in Old English. Though this is as far as he got—lazy layabout! My Ols English is too rusty to make out more than a couple words.
