Had a beautiful conversation with my kiddo the other day. To paraphrase, they asked, "If the universe is so big and we're so tiny, what is the purpose of our lives?". I paused for a moment and replied, "It is a miracle that we or any other living thing exist at all. The purpose is purely to live".

#Lytton residents will have their class-action lawsuit against Canada’s two major railway companies heard in the B.C. Supreme Court, thanks partly to new evidence of high brake temperatures on a train passing through the community shortly before the town burned.

A BC Supreme Court justice ruled the evidence that a train sparked the devastating fire is sufficient for a trial.

Since Stephen Miller is in the midst of another of his Aryans-only trantrums, we should note that his family are 20th century immigrants from the shtetl of Antopol (Антопаль) then in the Hrodna gubernia of Russia. Applying his immigration rules, they would all have perished in the Holocaust.

If my nephew’s ideas on immigration had been in force a century ago, our family would have been wiped out.

I know people are closely following what's going on the US and the horrors of ICE, but do you know how Canada is quickly and quietly is growing its deportation machinery?

Canada plans to increase deportations by 25 percent over the next two years. 25 PERCENT!!!

Here are 5 other things to know:

Feeling good about winterizing things before the snowfall we got yesterday. One exception: prepping our snow blower. I've fixed enough machinery in my time to know to maintain things, but I am convinced it is inhabited by a minor demon.

Hi Bluesky 👋

Small life update: I’m at the centre of a multimillion dollar lawsuit in Alberta launched by a failed candidate for Jason Kenney’s UCP

It may be the longest and most expensive media trial in Canadian history

I’m ready to go public about it and I want to share more details with you 🧵

It took Herculean will to convince my child to come outside for a woods walk yesterday, but it was so worth it when - unprompted - they made a heart out of the birdseed in their hands and said, "This is me saying I love you".

Then, we fed the chickadees. 🐦

This goes to the heart of vision and procurement policy: a pvc roof last an 20y; a green roof last 40; is a green roof twice the cost of a pvc roof? No? Then over a lifespan, the green roof is cheaper. That’s not even factoring better insulation, stormwater control, solar heat gain and 1/
Nothing says “meh” like a green PVC roof as “nod to the parliament buildings”

Talk about grasping for straws. (Flips desk)

So, considering how widespread yesterday's outage was, why exactly are we putting so many eggs into only a few baskets? I'll admit my technical ignorance - I don't know how this infrastructure works - but it doesn't really seem sensible from the layman's perspective.

This morning, Mayor Sutcliffe held a press conference outlining the modified Lansdowne 2.0 recommendations before city councillors or the public had access to them. That’s unacceptable. Transparency and respect for Council should come before media rollouts.
