If I renew my passport online they cancel my old one while processing the application. I could time this for when I don't have upcoming trips, but it freaks me out to not have the flexibility.

Okay, real question: I'm currently flying on my US passport because I wanted to wait til my old drivers license expires in January 2027 to get a new (REAL ID) one. But my passport expires in September 2026. There's no way I'm going to be able to do this while maintaining the ability to fly, right?
