Yesterday I completed the skipping challenge (though I was perhaps not as consistent as I was at the beginning!) and we managed to raise £245 for Crohn's & Colitis UK! Thanks so much to everyone who donated, your generosity will make a big difference to someone suffering with this illness.

fundamentally the problem is that if you think "hotels are where I stay on holiday and I like being on holiday so living in a hotel must be fun and it's not fair others get to do it and not me" then you have the intellectual reasoning of a little child and it's going to be hard to engage with you

I know this seems like a tiny thing but I am so, so committed to the idea that Oxbridge should a) not have an earlier UCAS deadline b) not have the stupid “can’t apply to both” rule in place. They aren’t special! Stop pretending that they’re special!
A strange by-product of widening participation at Oxbridge is that it reinforces the idea that not getting into Oxbridge is a big deal; it really isn’t. It’s not a disadvantage to go elsewhere. There are (for now at least) great unis in the UK & it’s not a good thing to act like Oxbridge is special
we would be in a much better state in this country if we stopped focusing on anointing a chosen few working class students into Oxbridge, and instead properly funded all the different sorts of universities that attract students from a wide range of backgrounds already
