Hey it’s my first post on Bluesky! I’m a photographer from Chicago. I shoot the night sky, fresh air, and places I visit around the world. Often to be found on a long road trip. 👋
Found this sunrise from Feb 3rd 2020 sitting in a folder. I think I forgot about it because I was still recovering from Covid Classic™ that I had caught in Spain a few weeks earlier. And because life was about to become very different on account of the same.

I got a tattoo and used power tools today; I go to bed a happy camper.

The aurora became visible quite quickly to some audible gasps including my own. Starting to fade slightly now. Still amazed to be seeing this in the middle of Chicago.

Aurora update: yooooooooooooo

It’s amazing to see and talk with so many people out hoping for a sighting of the aurora, planes and stars overhead

If it’s of interest, here’s how basically the same frames look after I process them on a 27” monitor instead of on my phone, on the beach, in the dark, with frozen hands.

Taken within a minute of the others; mostly I updated the tone curve to match what I wanted to show.

A siege-breaking snowstorm followed by the strongest aurora in living memory is proof that Chicago has the Mandate of Heaven and its enemies will die by her sword

Just got to answer a hyper-local pronunciation question about my fairly rural hometown online, and…is this what New Yorkers feel like all the time?

I used to watch the broadcast after children’s shows when I was super young, and it’s one of the first things that got me interested in the broader world from my little room in Pennsylvania
Tonight marks a milestone for all of us at the PBS News Hour. On this day 50 years ago, we aired our first broadcast. The show had a different name, but the same mission to deliver thoughtful & trustworthy journalism. Half a century later, we're still at it & guided by the same principles & mission.

Last weekend I drove to Theodore Roosevelt National Park for some peace and quiet and time for reflection. The park was very empty but I wasn’t quite alone.

I’ll be thinking of this article the next time I hear a rousing Star Spangled Banner or receive a lecture on how someone protected my freedoms

Clouds drifting across the full moon tonight over Chicago. View from my porch. Sounds by crickets, traffic, and a light breeze.

A Spitfire, unexpected but cinematic, in the skies over Bosham, England last week. The sound was...perfect.
